Santorini is a non-abstract re-imagining of the 2004 edition. Since its original inception over 30 years ago, Santorini has been endlessly developed, enhanced and refined by mathematician and educator, Dr. Gordon Hamilton.Santorini is a highly accessible pure strategy game that is simple enough for an elementary school classroom. But with enough gameplay depth and content for even hardcore gamers to explore, Santorini is truly a game for everyone.

There are a lot of people who don't like abstract games where there is a lot of back and forth between 2 players controlling their own set of pieces (think chess, go, checkers etc), but Santorini's simple design and theme almost makes it feel like you are not playing an abstract game at all, and I have found that many of my friends who don't enjoy those types of games have enjoyed playing this one (and even requested to play more).
Note: There are originally two companies that sold this game: Roxley Games and Spin Master Games, both of which are (at the time of writing) much cheaper to purchase on Amazon.com. I purchased the Spin Master Games version from there, which is the cheaper of the two as it does not come with the sea board which you may have seen the island sitting on in various pictures or video reviews. My version came with enough pieces for three players to play the game, but I have only ever played it with two and can't see that the game would be as good with more than this.

You simply move once to any tile next to you where you are not blocked and then build... and then the gods come in and break the rules. A lot of strategy and very fun!
I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because it says up to four people can play, but I have yet to figure out how considering there are only 3 colors of workers, for 3 players. Maybe I just need to read through the 4 player instructions again. The game can be played in a simple mode which literally takes less than 10 minutes to play a game to figure it out. Once you've played it once, you understand the moves you can take to block your opponent etc., and the games take closer to 20 minutes.
Have fun with this great game!
You can teach this game to anyone in under a minute and be playing for hours. I hope this games becomes incredibly popular.
