Found this Lake District Guide brilliant and was just what we were looking for. It is compact but packed full of up to date information that was essential to our holiday. The maps are very useful and has a good selection of places to eat and drink in all the areas around the Lake District. Would have been lost without it! Definately recommended!

This is the best Lake district guide of its kind I have read. It is packed with useful ideas for places to visit and plenty of advice for tourists and walkers. It is written in an interesting style and by far the most readable guide I've come across. I would definitely recommend it.

Excellent book if going to the Lakes on holiday, have used these before with great success in finding great eating and drinking establishments, Although published in 2013 I recognized many places already visited but others may not still be around so need to do homework on this before being 100% certain available such as accommodation etc

A great book for one of my favourite places in the world. Compact and light enough to shove into your rucksack without noticing, clear, concise and useful. An invaluable touring companion.

By Squirr-El HALL OF FAMETOP 50 REVIEWER on 5 Aug. 2015
Format: Paperback
This 296-page book - the 7th (print) edition of March 2017 - is an interesting and readable (the two are not always found together) guide to the attractions of the English Lake District.

Unlike many guides, this is not a glossy booklet dotted with colourful photographs to make it look superficially attractive, but a (literally) rough guide in terms of comparative paper finishes, but well-designed and presented, with readable text, useful maps, and (well-chosen) photographs only where space allows. The excellent design and layout means that you don’t need unnecessary spot illustrations to break up column after column of small-printed data.

The Contents are
P004: Introduction (Where to go, when to go, what to see, etc.)
P020: Basics (travel, transport, accommodation, food & drink, and other important touristy stuff, particularly involving mountains, lakes and other outdoor activities!)

The Guide
P046: Windermere
P084: Grasmere and the central fells
P110: Coniston Water, Hawkshead and the south
P138: Keswick, Derwent Water and the north
P174: The western fells and valleys
P200: Ullswater
P220: Out of the National Park

P256: Contexts (articles on history, habitats, climbing, etc.)
P284: Index

I preferred this one to the DK book which I lost. Wish I bought it sooner as there is lots of detail and I didn't have time to get through it all before my holiday.
