I plan to buy this book, highlight all the films/directors I want to watch, write reviews of the movies I have seen, put in post-it directors that have not been listed... Basically it will be a living book. Hopefully Rough Guides will update it regularly.
I have bought the Rough Guide to Cult Film and Cult Fiction before, and the were not that good. This book is a must-have.
What do you guys think of this book?
I can't wait for other enthusiasts to pick it up.
Still, good to dip into from time to time and for getting another pov.

It occurs to me that there are very few movie books that deal exclusively with directors, and most of those deal with the subject in a superficial way. This book cannot be accused of being superficial, and in outling the achievements of around 840 directors of all nationalities in considerable detail and scrutiny, it fills in an important gap in printed criticism.
Not content to merely outline a director's career and output, the book gives a critical analysis of each subject's oeuvre. Certainly some will baulk at the spirited opinions given about their favourite revered film-maker, however better to have bold assessments than blandishments.
A wonderful tome to delve into and explore, there are many hours of enjoyable browsing to be discovered within the 650 packed pages of this very carefully researched and thoughtfully written publication, a must in every serious movie buff's library.
It’s a 625+ pages of boredom about a short bio of each director and a list of 1 to 3 of his/her films. Some directors are rewarded with a very lengthy bio, others with very short one.
The book includes awful directors with a list of pitiful films that the potential viewers can do without. I know there are some names omitted from the list of directors, so it’s not a really comprehensive book.
What’s included quite often are unwarranted criticism by the so-called experts on films; it is just annoying to be inundated with much personal opinions.
All in all, The Rough Guide to Movie Directors is not all that interesting of a read.
