Slightly dated (originally published in 1937) but still thoroughly amusing satire set in the Grantham a young Margaret Thatcher grew up in. First read it 20 years ago, bought this copy out of curiosity and was surprised how much of it still rings true today.

Language rather archaic but as perceptive today as when written. A true parody of local politicians as proven by events in Sudbury Suffolk as depicted in Dicken's Eatanswill. An hilarious read.

Have not read any Oliver Anderson since 1968/9 but always wanted to go back to his books. How have purchased about 8 in the last 5 years but have read none (as yet).

My worry is that his writing may be like that bottle of red wine you've been keeping for years, you remember drinking a bottle of it 20 years ago and loving it, but are scared about trying the next bottle in case it does not live up to expectation.
