Excellent piece of kit this. I've had a few DAB radios in my time including Pure - which are great until you come to try and update their firmware and Roberts - which always seem to lacking "something". I previously had a Roberts Colourstream and eventually returned it as its faults made it a pain to use.

I wish I had come across this unit sooner, because it is fantastic. Firstly, it looks good. It's compact and does not dominate the bedside table and has a minimalist feel to the design that appeals.

Setup is a doddle from the moment you switch it on, network configuration is simple and the menu to enter your network key is one of the better ones I've seen. DAB station scanning was quick and found all the stations my other DAB units do. The addition of the Frontier Silicon site integration is useful and allows for easy finding and sorting of internet radio stations.

Sound quality is great for a smaller unit with surprisingly gutsy bass, the addition of an equaliser helps here to tweak the output to suit your ear. OK so the unit is not exactly going to rock Knebworth, but it performs well for something its size - it always pays to get these things in perspective.

The iPod dock is flawless and allows full control of my iPod Classic 160GB with the remote control, which some units do not always allow. On the subject of the remote - it works well and is well thought out. You can however operate the unit with ease using the touch sensitive buttons on the front.

Streaming too works well and without any apparent problems. It's nice to find something like this that simply works, it does what it's supposed to do and does it well. You feel that they were aiming for simplicity without unnecessary frills.

Kradio Review

I bought one of these radios from my local Costco last autumn; I paid £120 and thought it was an absolute bargain ! So impressed by it was I that I decided to buy another and as Costco was out of stock I searched the internet. And when I saw them for sale at £84 through one of Amazons affiliated sellers I didn't hesitate in ordering another.

The radio came just as promptly as though it were coming from Amazon, although I have to say the packaging was not up to scratch, simply being a taped up plastic bag over the original Kradio box and consequently was showing signs of postal `war wounds' when opened up. But the radio was in perfect condition so no worries.

So if music is your thing and listening to lots of different music from all over the world, as well as playing back your iPod music this product is for you. The radio is a quality product finished in a high gloss piano black, the remote is one of the best of any type I have ever encountered, and in terms of look it is aesthetically very pleasing being of the contemporary minimalist style.

Setting up is very easy; it found my modem immediately and connected seamlessly. Once connected it proceeded to check for software updates and when downloaded it was up and running ! The display is bright blue with no brightness adjustment and so maybe a little too bright for the bedroom, given that the Kradio has alarm settings, which is the only negative thing I have to say about the radio.

Overall an excellent radio.

Really easy to get it up and going. It found my network really fast. Fairly easy menu to follow to set up preset stations on dab,fm and internet. Logs onto wireless network and internet station really quickly. Nice to be able to drop in ipod as well.
Remote control easy to use as well on all functions.
Radio looks good, very black an shiny with nice touch buttons.
Sound is pretty good too.

A couple of minor negative points where it could have been improved -
The clock display is a little too bright at night gives the room a strange blue glow.
Also the display is a little difficult to read unless you are directly in front of it.
Would have been nice to have audio out to connect into other hi-fi.

Having nosed around various sources to find a compact, deluxe clock radio, and read quite a few reviews, I punted for the item that I just couldn't keep my eyes off. Having had the Roth KRadio for a few weeks, I have reached the conclusion that I like it, and feel that, in time, I will grow to appreciate it even more. As previous reviews have alluded to, the KRadio has pros and cons.

Pros;

- It is slightly bigger than it first appears, and sitting on the bedside, it is a classy looking, expensive looking,
well designed, bit of kit.
- It is really easy to set up.
- It is quick between radio stations.
- I like the radio aeriel, which fixes in position when adjusted.
- I like the soft touch keys on the front of the unit.
- I like the display; it is informative, big, and bright.
- The sound when listening to the radio is rich, clear and bassy.
- There are loads and loads and loads of radio stations to choose from.
- The remote control works well, and is easy to use when navigating through the various playing options.
- You can use the remote control to interact with your iPod, (in my case, a 'Classic' and a 'Touch').
- The lid for covering the iPod access point is a nice touch.
- There is plent of scope to adjust the sound, in terms of volume and desired taste, both in radio and iPod mode.
- The Roth KRadio is easily loud enough for a bedroom and a small kitchen.

Cons;

- As mentioned in a previous review, the display at night is bright, even in 'dimmer' mode. My wife calls it 'Gazerbeam'!
- If you like a lot of bass in your music, the speakers don't take too kindly to it!
