About Roslyn I Torella
I am a native of the Mahoning Valley in NE Ohio and have two great passions, family history and local history. My writing and research reflects both of them. My first book “Lowellville Ohio: Murders, Mayhem & More” is a unique collection of newspaper articles dating between the 1850s and the early 1920s about my hometown. I love the way reporters reported the news of a century ago and wanted my readers to be able to enjoy the colorful and descriptive reporting, so I included the full text of the stories. I added my personal touch to the stories by using my family history research skills to provide the backstory for my readers on the reported events or the people in the stories.
I spend a lot of my free time researching the history of the Mahoning Valley and the families of those who reach out to me wanting to know their roots. I share my research on two Facebook groups that I created, Lowellville Ohio History and Mahoning Valley Italian Descendants.
I am a contributing writer for La Gazzetta Italiana (Cleveland, Ohio) and the Hometown Journal (Struthers, Ohio). My stories are about local history and genealogy.
I am proud graduate of Lowellville High School and Youngstown State University.
