Right from the get go this book grabs you in it's silky claws and pulls you into it. As you read you can almost smell the dust from the decrepit cottage or the fresh sweetness of the roses of the garden. It's very hard to picture the scene in a lot of modern novels, The Rose Prince however almost forces you to act out every line in your head. This book is a sure fire classic for anyone with half a brain. A Must Read.

"The Rose Prince" was one of the best books I've read this year and I wouldn't say that if I didn't mean it. I don't ordinarily read fantasy books or anything like that but I was so immersed in this colourful world I couldn't put it down. I found it funny, witty and I could picture it. The tangle with Famine I thought was wonderful and Jayne's arrival in the next kingdom with the guard babbling "peasant" tongue was awesome. Beth pulled off the south-western discourse to a tee. The language isn't difficult to read, its simple (which is the best form of writing) and vibrant with a dash of humour in all of the right places. Humour might be the best quality about it which seems rude to all of the other magnificent qualities therein such as the action and the plot itself. A lot of writers wear a funny hat too large for them but Beth's crooked hat is a perfect fit. Well worth a read and then another. If I had a hat of my own I'd tip it. Looking forward to more mischief.

A thoroughly enjoyable book, well written and one where I found myself being drawn into the wonderfully described world and truly felt for the peril of the characters. Reminded me of the style of story that first got me hooked on reading for pleasure; dark, yet with a constant undertone of humour. An excellent debut novel and I'm very much looking forward to her next which I know is in the works. (Must say, I'm glad I don't live in Dorset if these curses are the sort of thing they get up to down that way...)
