I had this book in paperback form and have used it so much that it has started to fall apart, but it is apparently out of print, so I was happy to find this hardback version. The only disappointment was that one of my favourite recipes from the paperback is not in this earlier hardback version, but everything else is, and there are some delicious recipes - I've made them countless times now and they're always popular, even with hardened meat eaters!

As a recent vegetarian I was unsure of how to approach xmas this year. This book really helped with detailed recipes and
planning for the preparation and serving of food for the big occaision.

The book arrived very promptly and, although second-hand, was in great condition. It was a replacement for my much-loved copy bought in the 80's; it would be hard to live without it since it contains some fabulous recipes that we all love!

Very intelligent cookery writer and a great alternative to traditional Christmas recipes. All Rose Elliot"s cookery books are of a very high standard.

I bought this book to give me some fresh ideas for Christmas, as I always like to make a few special festive meals for my vegetarian / vegan family. I remember Rose Elliot from the 80's and thought I would be inspired as I'd had many of her recipe books. Unfortunately this book has not stood the test of time - not Rose's fault - I had no idea how dated cookery books could be. The vegetable dishes are dull and pedestrian, the main courses would not excite any modern veggie and the puds were just average old fashioned British deserts. I did not make one item from the book and I am afraid I never will. You will be pleased to hear Christmas was saved as one of the kids had borrowed Ottolenghi's Plenty which is a vegetarian and vegan's dream - I made so many of his recipes through the holiday. Elliot's book is out of step with modern vegetarian cooking though of course it was innovative in its day, when we were desperate for anything that acknowledged the existence of vegetarian food. It might be of interest for purely nostalgic purposes.
