The main character and the plot held my interest until the end. I felt Dylan to be interesting in a quite quirky way, his personality held me, even though I did get the urge to wake him and shake him once or twice. I would certainly be keen to read what he gets up to next. The plot, always on the twist and turn, certainly held my attention, to the very end.
The writing I found to be overly descriptive at some points, but I understand that this is the author's first book in a series and therefore assume that the description was necessary in introducing the characters, who I assume will be in subsequent stories.
The Italian assistant who doesn't speak his own language was an interesting twist, and I would assume that there will eventually be more to that than meets the eye. And the Indian chap that keeps appearing? Can he be sustained as a mainstay character, if indeed that is the intention?
The few clues are in there, spread throughout the book, but to be honest, you've got to know your stuff most of the time or you'll miss them.
All in all an enjoyable read that I can thoroughly recommend!

l found myself involved in this quirky story right from the off, but sometimes those little oddities seem like red herrings! The Italian who can't speak his own language? And what exactly does the eponymous concentric room do? I'm not 100% convinced it's necessary but it does make for gripping reading. I'll be looking out for more Dylan Beaumaris stories.

Good overall story line, exciting twists & turns.
Dylan's character was written well, as he came across as naive, but possible to ballsy in places for a rookie.
Am so pleased he told Victoria to do one in the end......really thought he was going to give in.
Look forward to the next installment of Beaumaris Investigations.

I liked the central characters, distinctly amateur private detectives, and the villains were convincingly unpleasant. The book could probably do with some more editing, with rather more space given to the backstory at various points than is really justified, but overall an enjoyable read.
