I must admit i was a bit sceptical about this series on reading the very few reviews there are out there about it. I believe there are now six books out in this series and these are the first two. It basically concerns jim rook, who teaches a special needs english class and who has an ability to see spirits and each one pits him up against a different kind of enemy, basically evolved from different kinds of folklore and cultures. In rook, jim and his class fight against voodoo and in tooth and claw the indian deity's of coyote and bear maiden, who also showed up in charnel house. Now as i said at the start of my review i was skeptical, but i ordered this and thoroughly enjoyed both books, yes they are both flawed, but to me if you find a book hard to put down its the sign of a good one. The horror is not as strong as other works but they are enjoyable and you get to feel for the characters. Would recommend definitely to a masterton fan, but not a purist seeking literary genius

One of the best story tellers of horror/thriller I've ever read. Beware if you have a good imagination, these books will give you nightmares!

Better and less silly than some of the later ones. 'Rook' is better than 'Tooth and Claw'. Typical Masterton - like him and you'll probably like these!
