It's a water-based paint, so splashes can be removed with a damp sponge and the brush can be rinsed out under the tap. I needed three coats to get an opaque finish. After the first coat, I noticed that the cracks between the floorboards were looking a bit uneven and messy, the narrow ones filling with paint and the wider ones unfilled. So I filled all the gaps with UniBond White Flexible Decorator's Filler, and applied the second and third coats over that.
The finished paint job looked very good indeed, and for the most part still does, three months later. It's a kind of eggshell finish, smooth but not too slippery, and you can still see the texture of the wood, which I like. It can be wiped clean of any minor scuffs and dirt.
The main problem I have is that in some high-traffic places, notably in front of a desk and by a door, the paint is showing a tendency to flake off in narrow strips. I've already had to repaint those patches a couple of times, and I suspect this will be an ongoing problem unless I put a mat over those parts of the floor. For this reason, I strongly advise keeping any leftover paint from the can, for patching purposes.
I also purchased the product that comes with the applicator and used that to apply it. The applicator worked very well and did indeed speed up the process.
Each coat was dry within 2 hours if not sooner. (Painted during warm temperatures).
The low odour meant we could use the room almost straight away.
Unfortunately the paint arrived open in the box. The tin of paint was dented and the lid had popped open. Most of the paint was caught by the heavy duty bag surrounding the tin so there was almost no leakage into the box.
The box was undamaged, it looked as though the tin had perhaps been dropped whilst being packed and the lid being open was not noticed.
There were two catches attached to the lid, they had acted like hinges.
I was able to pour the paint back into the tin and reseal it. I don't think a lot of product was list, it was just a bit messy.
I decided to purchase this product as I couldn't get hold of the usual International Floor a Paint I have used previously.
The Ronseal product surprised me when I opened the tin , as it appeared to have a much more watery consistency than the International product . I thought I would give it the benefit if the doubt & began applying to my stairs , which had been previously painted with the International floor paint , which was a much thicker & hard wearing floor paint.
I was very disappointed with the coverage . It's thin , almost opaque. I've applied another coat , & I can still see the original International paint through it , despite all paints purporting to be ' white'.
The Ronseal product dries reasonably quickly , but then it is incredibly ' thin'.
This is a Very inferior product . I will Not be buying it again.
I have painted various bedroom floors in a previous house with the International paint , which gives incredibly hard wearing coverage , is easy to clean & is good value for money . The Ronseal product is the exact opposite of all the afore mentioned .
Very disappointed & left with a 'high traffic area' ( stairs) I adequately covered by this useless product.
Don't buy it . Save your money . Buy either International Floor Paint , or Dulux Floor Paint .😢
