"Ronaldo: The Journey of a Genius" encapsulates for the first time the highs and lows of the Brazilian football star's remarkable career to date. Brimming with exclusive interviews and full of revealing new insights into his life and personality, this is the definitive Ronaldo biography. Author James Mosley has been given exclusive access to the footballer's close management and advisers, who have shared with him their experiences with the player over the last ten years. They reveal the inside story of his explosive impact on the world game at Barcelona in 1997, the mysterious events of the World Cup final at France '98, and the horrendous knee injury that threatened to finish his career. After making a remarkable recovery to lift the World Cup in 2002 and win the Golden Boot award, Ronaldo has returned to his prolific goal-scoring ways at Real Madrid. He continues to be a genuine icon of world football, matched only by David Beckham for fame, recognition, and marketability. He has been named FIFA World Player of the Year thrice and European Player of the Year twice, and is close to breaking the record for scoring the most international goals."Ronaldo: The Journey of a Genius" reveals how the star rose from humble beginnings in Rio de Janeiro to become a football phenomenon. His wealth has been massively boosted by countless advertising and sponsorship deals, which have in turn enhanced his status as an idol around the world. This exhaustive biography also takes us off the pitch to unearth aspects of Ronaldo's private life, including the circumstances behind the failure of his first marriage, and his long-awaited 'second marriage' to Brazilian model Daniella Cicarelli.

It's a mystery that no-one else has seen fit to write a book about one of the best players of all time, and credit should go to James Mosley for taking on a project that must have been daunting for an English-speaking writer.
However, Mr Mosley's writing skills unfortunately do not match his research abilities. Some of the lines in the book are just cringeworthy, my personal favourite being: 'German clubs also sent scouts to check him out, with expectant cheque books tucked in the back pockets of their lederhosen'.
Awful stereotype aside, what exactly is an 'expectant' cheque book?
There are plenty of similar examples, too many to ever really focus on the story itself - which would be a fascinating one if properly told.
Now onto the book itself and I must say firstly the author, James Mosley, tells the story of Ronaldos early days incredibly, telling us funny stories like how a young Ronaldo used to spend all his bus money on burgers and then have to walk the 6 miles back to his favela home hahaha you can take the boy out of Rio eh! Thats just one of the many moments I found myself smiling or laughing at Ronaldos life both on and off the pitch. So much I didnt know about Ronaldo that the author explains ammensly and the book also features interviews with various people who have helped Ronnie on his way to the very top. Its not all fun and games though as Mosley explains Ronaldos various injuries which hampered him throughout his illustrious career and he puts across just how great of a man and athlete Ronaldo was to come back time and time again.
Overall, if you are a fan of 'el phenomenom' or even if you just want to know more about one of the greatest players ever then I'd definitely recommend giving this book a go. 5 stars doesnt do it justice in my opinion. Its a terrific read from a fantastic author about arguably the most gifted footballer this world has ever seen.
