I definitely preferred this to Romeo and Juliet: Volume 1, which is a fairly poppy and lively soundtrack. This, however, is more of a score, with a lot of operatic and classical music. Nearly all of it is absolutely beautiful music, and moves perfectly with the moods of the film. If you liked Baz Luhrmann's "Something for Everybody" (which is similarly brilliant), I recommend this very strongly. It's quirky, it's familiar, it's innocent, it's experienced, it is everything you need for both relaxing and exciting listening.

This album still bears elements from the first soundrack but has concentrated on instrumental tracks and music taken directly from the film and not just full songs like the first soundtrack. It again has balanced the different moods of the music by linking similar pieces of music together to form what is quite frankly a masterpiece.

Awesome! First 5 tracks are streaks ahead of the rest of the album, but it is still one of the best movie soundtracks that i have heard in ages!! It is moving in the typical classical way, but uses such fresh ideas in terms of instrumentation and emotion. It takes you on the journey that the great Billy himself took us on, but with none of the weird words. Couple of popular tracks in there (Montague Boys is great!) and a whopping great 12 minute long "slow movement" which is very touching and emotional. This is a soundtrack that is truly post-modernist-what else would you expect from a Baz Luhrman project? Fantastic!

Bought for Balcony Scene by Craig Armstrong. Other tracks ok is clearly a soundtack. Bit of a mish mash of clips and bird of music from the film. Wrth buying for just the Balcony Scene music though. Beautiful piece.

Produced, I suspect, more for the film-goer than for those wanting to hear glorious music, this is an interesting compilation but a frustrating one. It was produced in 1997 (in Australia) and printed in the USA.

Good for film buffs - less so for music lovers.

Wow! This soundtrack is amazing and I have shamefully only just discovered it! I heard the balcony scene and fell in love all over again! The music simply took my breath away, as if time stopped still for a few minutes, where a tender moment could last forever, transporting me to a plain where there is no pain or suffering. At the end of the track you hear Clare Danes utter those immortal words "night, parting is such sweet sorrow that I shall say goodnight till tomorrow" I am simply bowled over by such a beautiful piece, this is music which cuts through everything and speaks to the soul.

A beautiful collection of a diverse range of music from the film that will satisfy the cravings of any die hard R & J fan. I agree with another reviewer that the actors voice overs can sometimes be irritating, but can sometimes enhance. Buy this if you want to listen to it at night and be completely swept back into the film! I love the music from the staircase scene when Romeo realises the girl he has met at the party is a Capulet!

Bought this cd as part of a double set, for my daughter who loves the music as well as the film. Tried to find it in the local shops but finally found it through Amazon, and was delighted to find it and the price was very reasonable.
