Out of the box, this map appeared good, but actually trying to navigate around Rome, two flaws became evident. This map does not give the name of many smaller streets so you do get confused unless you are on a main road. Secondly, there are inaccuracies. For example, this map says the Keats and Shelley House is on the next square along to the Spanish Steps. We looked and looked and couldn't find it eventually concluding that a newly opening shop must have taken the site over. Looking on Googlemaps just now, it is actually right next to the Spanish Steps.

Leave it alone.

I bought this map as I was heading off to Rome and I had got the Venice one a couple of years ago and I was not disappointed in it.

The map is really clear to follow, though the street names can be a bit small sometimes (especially the list of street names)

The map seems a bit flimsy at first look, but actually that becomes a benefit as the plastic means you can really bend and abuse it without it tearing or only folding along set lines (like the Venice one I have)

I would definitely get more of these if visiting a city I'll be walking around.

We used this clear but detailed map frequently during our stay in Rome. The hotel maps of Rome are in tiny print and are not detailed enough other than for the large well known attractions/buildings

HASH(0x8ba15948) out of 5 stars A Great Map of Rome 14 Aug. 2015
By Gregory Viggiano - Published on Amazon.com

I have used this map for two trips to Rome, lent it to friends for their own trip, and am using it for my third trip in October. I keep it at hand as I do my planning, and carry it with me for reference as I travel about the city.

The map is detailed with all the major and minor sights, streets and roads, remains of the Aurelian Walls, and Metro stops. Major sights such as St. Peter's Basilica, the Colosseum, and the Pantheon are represented by oversized realistic line drawings that make them even easier to pick out. Locations of important non-touristic places such as post offices, hospitals, and police stations are also indicated on this map.

Unlike another reviewer below, my version of the map - copyright 2013 - has all of Rome on one side, and indexes, a close-up of Vatican City, general information, and schemata of the Metro system and Fiumicino Airport on the other side.

The map is printed on a plastic-type material (perhaps it is plastic-laminated paper) that is difficult to tear and has contributed to its longevity despite my extensive use. Rain does not faze this map one bit. I have annotations for my favorite sights and restaurants written right on it, although ink takes time to dry on the plastic surface.

The scale is sufficient so that streets and points of interest are clearly marked and easy to identify; however, the large scale also means the map does not extend nearly as far as I would like, extending West only as far as the Western edge of Vatican City, and the southern edge cuts off half the Baths of Caracalla. Also, the depictions of the Pantheon and Vittoriano show both buildings facing South (probably to ease recognition) when in fact they are both oriented North.

However, these are minor quibbles. This is a great map with more than enough detail for the average tourist. I highly recommend this map!

HASH(0x8bacef54) out of 5 stars Our go-to map for Rome 8 Jun. 2015
By Bill - Published on Amazon.com

This was our everyday map for our recent 12 days in Rome. We had several maps with us, but this was the best compromise. It had enough detail so we could actually find things, and was large enough so we could read it while walking around the city. It's well worth the modest expense. We used it in conjunction with various guidebooks, including the National Geographic "Walking Rome".

HASH(0x8ba15d74) out of 5 stars Not Quite Right 6 Aug. 2014

This map is not quite right, and not easy to use. The print is larger than some others, but still difficult to read. Also, part of the city is on one page and the rest on another. Wouldn't buy this one again. Had to borrow another one from a friend.

HASH(0x8ba15f24) out of 5 stars Good for Historical Center 14 Sept. 2015

I must have read what I wanted to read in the description. This is a great map for the historic center of Rome, but I want to go to Testaccio and this map barely gets there. Streets aren't named and the Piramide Metro stop isn't on the map. I wanted more of Rome. I am using "Walking Rome" and this map was said to go with it, but it doesn't quite do that.
