For the artists of the Romantic movement working in the Channel Islands during the early and mid-nineteenth century, the landscape and the surrounding seas were truly inspirational. The rugged coastlines, secluded valleys, rough weather and atmospheric light all added to the creative palette of local and visiting artists.

This book was originally intended to accompany an exhibition. However although only a small book it is a lovely introduction to the work of some of the Romantic Artists who painted in the channel islands in 19th century. It contains short biographies of the 5 main artists featured including Victor Hugo and Sarah Kilpatrick plus colour illustrations of the pictures. The pictures are very evocative for people who know the channel islands and for art buffs it is a brief introduction to the artists. The book is only a rough sketch of the subject matter but a good starting point and left me wanting to know more
