This is absolutely outstanding and sets a new benchmark in the study of Romans. Paul's greatest letter comes alive once attention is paid, as here, to the first century context. Jewett's work is simply amazing in the way in which on page after page it sheds fresh light on the epistle. The introduction is over 100 pages in length and on its own makes this a stand-out work. No book has excited me as much as this in many years of reading this type of literature and as a student of both the New Testament and of urbanization I will forever be grateful for it.
The book was exactly what I wanted. It contextualises Paul's letter to the Romans into the time when it was written in a most scholarly way. This will be a worthwhile resource for me for many years to come.
