HASH(0x91c4d69c) out of 5 stars Outstanding commentary from an Arminian perspective 15 Jan. 2011
By Finance Prof - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I bought this commentary as a reference after having read several of Cottrell's other works. He has an excellent one-volume systematic theology written from an Arminian perspective. Many Calvinists say "Just read Romans" as though it must inevitably support their view. While parts of Romans are difficult to interpret, I was never convinced by the Calvinist perspective, and so I decided to examine Cottrell's interpretation of various passages. His commentary was so well written and chock full of theological clarity, that I read the entire work! I own other commentaries on Romans such as Schreiner and Moo, and they are excellent in many ways, but their Calvinism grates on me. Cottrell's work critiques Calvinist interpretations in a thoughtful and thorough way and is truly a breath of fresh air. Highly recommended!

HASH(0x91d5dc90) out of 5 stars Romans a solid stand 24 Nov. 2010
By Mapper - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
If you are looking for a good commentary on Romans that uses a SOLID biblical stand then look no farther. Mr Cottrell has spent decades studying and teaching about GRACE and Romans and this commentary provides a wealth of information.
While I have only scratched the surface with this book it is one I will use for the rest of my life as a reference on Romans and biblical issues related to Romans. It is complete and well documented.
Mr Cottrell is part of the "restoration movement" sometimes called the "Stone-Campbell" movement. This book is solid with those views. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to study and understand the biblical book of Romans.
I also enjoyed the idea that this edition came with a CD containing the PD's of the 2 volume set.

HASH(0x91f1c4bc) out of 5 stars Romans from a non-Calvinist perspective 30 May 2011
By Robert Brickner - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This is a beneficial commentary because it provides an alternative to commentaries on Romans written from a Calvinistic viewpoint. As with all his books, Cottrell's reasoning is biblical, logical, clear, and precise. Truly a blessing for those who desire to learn, teach, and apply Romans at a deeper level.

HASH(0x91d5dfd8) out of 5 stars This Book is Excellent 19 May 2012

I have enjoyed this book very much. I purchased it for a college class I will be taking in the fall.
It is written in a way that is clear and concise. If you are a student, a Pastor or a leader in your Church
and you want an excellent commentary to study the "doctrine of grace, I recommend this book.I will also make this comment the CD that came with the book did not work on my "CD Players", but I still give the book a 5 star rating. I would like to know if anyone else had the same problem with the CD.
