Product Description

There are plenty of portable MIDI keyboard controllers around, but portability usually means subpar keyboard action. With the new A-49, the game has changed - this lightweight, slim-line controller features a premium-grade, full-size keyboard that musicians will immediately feel at home with. Available in pearl white and black finishes, the A-49 is a dream for musicians seeking a simple, easy-to-use MIDI keyboard with pro-quality playing feel.

49 full-size keys with velocity sensitivity
Lightweight and compact
Easy to use
Two knobs, two switches, and D-BEAM controller
USB bus powered; no AC adapter required
Bundled with Cakewalk SONAR LE software
Pearl white and black finishes

Great Keys, Great Controls
The A-49's keys have a rounded shape for better reaction to the player's touch and more comfortable glissandi. Other enhancements have been made to reduce the already low mechanical noise and eliminate vertical shake. All of these features add up to a keyboard that even the most discerning pros will appreciate. Add color to your sound and excitement to your performance by waving your hands over the invisible D-BEAM. The A-49 can assign all its controllers automatically for fully utilizing an external SuperNATURAL sound module such as the INTEGRA-7. It's also a great second keyboard for controlling synthesizers that have onboard SuperNATURAL sounds, such as the JUPITER-80 and -50.
Mobile Music
The A-49 was developed for mobile use. It's strong yet amazingly lightweight (less than six pounds/2.5 kilograms), making it easy to lift and carry. And although it has a very streamlined design, the A-49 features a full-size, premium keyboard with 49 velocity-sensitive keys. For the ultimate in portable convenience, the A-49 is powered from your computer

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but 1 major design flaw 28 Sept. 2013
By e.r. - Published on Amazon.com
Overall I like this controller, but there is one thing that drives me absolutely nuts. There's no on/off switch. It doesn't automatically power on when it's connected via USB either. You have to:

1. Disconnect the USB cable
2. Hold down two random buttons simultaneously
3. Re-connect the USB cable

EVERY SINGLE TIME you want to turn this thing on.
I cannot fathom why Roland would make this so unuser-friendly. Major design flaw!

Aside from that the keys feel good and that's what I care about most. The 2 control knobs are so small and awkward they're pretty much unusable too.

If you want a compact controller with good key-action this might be for you, if you're willing to overlook the weird on/off thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Midi Mercedes... 20 April 2015
By Mr. P - Published on Amazon.com
Brilliant design with the typically seperate pitch/trem controls combined into one controller. You'll realize how ergonomically and functionally amazing this is as you are able to effortlessly & simultaneously control pitch/trem with one hand. The stick has a great feel to it with perfect resistance.

The keys are a big step up in playability and quality over the toy-like performance of controllers half the price.

The A49 has the perfect weight to it (feels about 10 pounds, comes with rubber feet and does not move on my desk).

The midi communicates perfectly with my DAW. Freezups are very rare. When they do happen, there's a welcome "panic" release key sequence which gets it back into mozart mode. No unplugging or rebooting software...

Don't cheap out on a keyboard controller. Either save up your allowance a bit longer, or overcome your desire to buy the lowest priced items. You get what you pay for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roland Glissando Quality 15 May 2014

Sure you may find a budget MIDI controller like M-Audio, Akai, Novation for cheaper or with extra added features but that's missing the point! This is Roland Quality! They are known for their epic synth keys as well as higher-end classical piano duplicates. They know what they are doing when it comes to quality keybeds and sleek finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent midi controller for the price 31 Oct. 2014

Excellent midi controller for the price. Keys not as responsive as desired, though, require too much pressure to induce acceptable volume.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best midi keyboard for the price 22 April 2016

Best midi keyboard for the price! I've been playing synth for over 20 years and I would say, hands down, this keyboard has the best feel and build quality for any midi keyboard in this price range. Sure, it doesn't have a ton of features but it's really well made. Plus, it has a small footprint and it fits easily on my desk.
