I ordered this stick as Roku seems to be getting the best reviews. I was torn between the streaming stick and the Roku 3 device but decided the stick would do more than I need anyway. Arrived yesterday and so easy to set up. I am not a techie in any way, but I was able to put the stick in one of the HDMI slots, plug in the power cable and marry up with my internet in minutes. If I can do it anyone can! Some of the channels were already there and it wad really easy to download all the ones I wanted. All the usual suspects are there: Netflix, YouTube, BBCiplayer, ITVplayer, 4od, etc, and I love Sky Store which lets you rent the latest releases on a pay-per-view basis so no expensive monthly costs.

I cancelled my Sky subscription months ago as I thought it was over-priced repeats (especially Sky Movies) and just not worth it. With this streaming device I can now watch lots of movies (some free, some not) and still be £50 a month better off! I wish I had known about these devices before, and it is certainly cheaper than buying a new tv.

If you have a "dumb" HD TV, then give this simple device a go - you won't regret it!

Was a bit skeptical about buying a device that relies on a wireless connection as I have bad wireless connection in my room and have no Wifi extender but the Roku is great. It's able to pick up my Wifi signal and produce a great picture (not the grainy picture you get from a bad internet connection).

It comes with the bright blue Roku device which plugs into a HDMI socket and a power cable which plugs into the device which then needs to be connected to a power socket. I seen devices on Amazon that can be bought so that a power socket isnt needed but that wasnt an issue for me so I havent really looked into that. It also comes with a little remote (takes two AAA batteries which are supplied) which sold it for me. I didnt want a device where I had to pay separately for a remote or use my phone as the remote. It also comes with adapters.

Set up was easy and self explanatory - just follow the on screen instructions. Once you get through that there are a list of popular apps. Various BBC apps incl iplayer, demand5, netflix, itv and a host of other I wont bother listing as I know others have. I would say that the device isnt as fluid in control as my Smart TV - sometimes it takes slightly longer to respond to commands - but for me its not detrimental because when the content is playing, it plays and it plays well.

Due to my HDMI ports being at the back and not on the side it does stick out a fair bit and take up a bit of space behind the screen. For me it doesnt cause a problem but depending on your spacing, it could be an issue. Defo a good buy for me as it made my non smart TV into a smart one.

This is a neat and compact device, which simply plugs into an HDMI socket in the back of the television. I needed to plug the other end of the cable into the mains, as it wouldn't power up when plugged into the USB socket on my TV, for whatever reason.
Setting up was fairly straightforward, by following the instructions that appear on the screen at each step. But it did take me a while, being the self confessed techno-deficient that I am. But if I can do it, anyone can, believe me.
It did take a bit of experimentation to load the channels that I wanted. As far as content is concerned, my main priorities were YouTube, and the British catch-up services (BBC IPlayer, ITV Hub, All4 and Demand 5). These were all available and easily added. I have tried them all and they work perfectly, but unlike normal television programmes you need to allow them a little time to come on-stream, but once commenced they run just like normal transmissions. This is from normal broadband, as I don't have the fibre variety, and I was very pleasantly surprised at the picture and sound quality. So in my view to have these services available is in itself worth the purchase piece of the stick.
But there are also an amazing number of weird and wonderful channels available for free, many of which which stream films and TV shows. But don't expect any freebie modern productions. They deal in older stuff, which to me are of novelty and curiosity value. Watching them is an education in the history of entertainment on screen. I can actually recall watching many of these as a youngster and thinking they were good. But now, some 50/60 years later, you appreciate just how much the industry has improved since then. Enough said!

Great bit of kit! Wish I'd known about this before. Can now easily watch ITV Player, etc., on TV. Very easy to fit and install. Make sure when you install, that you go into 'Settings' to check/change picture quality. Stick defaulted to lower quality picture setting, and I was a bit disappointed at first, until I realised. Much better now that I've changed the setting. Give it a try.

If your a bit hesitant about buying for the JW.Org Broadcasting - Go ahead and buy this stick. I didn't want anything more sitting on my TV unit so that's why I bought a stick that you just stick into the side of your TV. So easy to set up. Brilliant picture. Glad I bought this.
