A very useful book to have for my Kindle
Had read reviews for the cheaper roget's and was a
little worried I wouldn't be able to search, but the
Kindle search facility works fine with it. I have got it
mainly to use for crosswords, the only down side of this
version is that it uses american spelling eg color instead of
colour.

I found it hard to believe that a new edition thesaurus could fail to have an effective search facility - rarely would a book need it more. So I risked my 74p. And felt pretty cross and stupid when my first search attempt produced the error message reported by the previous reviewer. However, when I tried again with a different word it worked fine. After a few successful searches I tried again with the first search word; it worked fine. Apart from that very first word, all searches have worked, so this may simply be a minor start-up glitch. I've given 5 stars because not only does it work but also I'm pleased with how much more efficient a Kindle Thesaurus is than a paper thesaurus. The technology really adds value. Rather than have to traipse back and forth through the book to find the particular usage you're looking for, all references are pulled up in the search, with the result that you find what you're looking for much faster than with the paper edition.

...this is one of the few books that you can actually use to self-educate. Most fairly literate people progress language acquisition through modifying existing structures and definitions. In this respect a source that actually arranges itself systematically in terms of synonyms and antonyms rather than just defining certain words is always going to win through.
As a teacher of English to young children and an aspiring writer, this edition is an invaluable tool because of its,
* lay-out (seems daunting on first viewing, but it does make sense)
* price
* range (essentially words of common usage as opposed to strictly technical vocab)
* distinction between the different 'Englishes' - I feel that this is relevant to anyone concerned with the cultural predominance of 'American English'
Every home needs one - and this is undoubtedly the best and quite possibly the cheapest.

This works like a paper thesaurus - but instead of looking for you word in the second section of the book use Kindle 'Search this book', select your reference location with the five way control and enter. Simple

I initially gave this a 5-star review as it seemed to be excellent value for money.

I have now dropped this to 1-star because, despite the fact that the title says 'Latest Edition 2010', this is an ancient version of Roget, completely out of date. This problem is not apparent from the sample (which can't be searched), but as soon as I tried to use my purchased copy seriously I ran into problems.

I searched for the word 'yob', which is a 19th Century creation, so not that new.

Nothing.

I tried a few synonyms of yob that I could think of - 'yobbo', 'punk', 'skinhead' - still nothing. I then searched for the word 'fascist'. Again, nothing.

So I got out my paper version of Roget, 1987 edition, and I realised the two books were totally different. This Kindle version looks like the original 1852 edition. If that's what you want this is great value for money. But if you want an up to date edition that uses modern language, this is definitely not for you.

I shall be complaining to Amazon about the misrepresentation.

This book, although the words appear to be very well explained, is impossible to use as the find instruction returns a result of 'NOT
YET INDEXED TRY LATER' this is true both on my kindle and computer, both updated separately.

I got a used copy of this for next to nothing via Amazon. The cover is black/blue/orange (there are a few different versions). This version is fantastic, concise and tells you what you want to know (and more). Thrilled with my purchase and the quick arrival in time for Xmas. Thoroughly recommend it for just about anything, especially crosswords. It shows in depth meanings plus cross references. Ab Fab!

Classic reference book and supposedly up there with the Bible and Complete Works of Shakespeare in terms of sales, though somewhat more useful. Handy tool to relieve writers block once you have mastered the way it works. Prefer this edition to the more modern ones.
