In the not-too-distant future, America is controlled by an all-powerful corporate government that keeps the masses placated with violent virtual reality entertainment. The event of the year is the Death Race, where a motley assortment of drivers compete in a cross country road race, scoring points for driving over pedestrians and killing each other. The reigning champion is Frankenstein, a half man, half machine favorite of the people, but little does he know he’s taken a rebel spy as his co-pilot.

Its the year 2050 and America is controlled by an all powerful corporate government ruled by the chairman, the masses have been brainwashed with violent virtual reality entertainment, the event of the year is the death race! in which a motley crew of violent drivers compete in cross country road race scoring points for shamelessly running people over and running each other off the road, the reigning champion and fan favourite Frankenstein who's half man half machine wants to take the crown but his rebel spy co-pilot threatens his legacy.
This is one the most over the top bonkers reboots I've ever seen, its low budget and cheesy as hell but that's what gives it its charm and makes it brilliant, your either going to love or hate this movie, personally I had so much fun with it, its like watching a wacky races live action movie made by Troma films, it has such a black humour, the effects are cheesy the acting is cheesy the music is cheesy the costumes and everything is cheesy but its just so much fun to watch, the cast is ok with great roles by the brilliant Malcolm McDowell as the chairman, Manu Bennett is great as Frankenstein (better known as Crixus from Spartacus) plus loads of other crazy characters, the movie has some mild female topless nudity and mild gory violence all done on a Troma style budget, if your a big fan of these types of movies then check it out for sure, its too fun to not ever of watched at least once especially if your love 80's style cheesy Troma style movies.

As a fan of the original Death Race 2000 starring David Carradine and an early role for Sylvester Stallone, when I heard the legendary Roger Corman was revisiting his classic I instantly pre-ordered this.
I wasn't disappointed. The plot (what little there is) is ludicrous, the acting hammy, the special effects amateurish. In short, this is classic Roger Corman movie making, made on a shoestring budget and unashamedly so bad it's good. As mentioned, the commentary on capitalism and corporations, politics and society are as subtle as a sledgehammer to the face, or indeed *SPOILER* having your head blown apart by a loud speaker.
It's gory, ridiculous, nonsensical Roger Corman B movie magic. If you're a fan of B movies, cult movies, Roger Corman, violence, and running people down in cars with teeth, buy this film immediately.
They did so much with the reimaginating of Death Race with Jason Statham I had high hopes for Roger Cormans new working as I had so loved the original
But this is a tired copy with none of the energy or enthusiasm of the first
