I gained a degree in engineering in 1964, then spent 25 years designing electronic equipment for aircraft (including CH47). I then went back to University for a two-year BA course, founded "Gatteria" (related to cats in Italian producing and publishing cat related items), that is now slowly fading out after 25 years.
I still hold a ham license, I learned the 5 string banjo 60 years ago, did cross country ski competitions, and climbed in the Italian mountain range, the Alps.
Now I am a Fide-rated chess player, a librarian, an Instructor and a Regional Tournament Director of FSI (Italian Chess Federation) engaged in activities for my chess club. I am no longer an active player as age prevents me from playing tournaments with two 5-hour games a day.
The experience I have being an arbiter allows me to directly see all the recurrent errors players make; this is especially true in blitz games and endgames, that I closely watch ...
The club library I attend has 1500 books, and so do I. On the other hand, the public library Braidense also has the same amount of historical chess books: I am not saying I have read them all, but I have access to all, and I know what's not covered.
I have therefore prepared 18 short handbooks in English (out of 50 in different languages) about subjects that are not usually covered by training books.
While the ebooks have been especially prepared for 6" monochromatic readers (600x800 dpi), they can be better appreciated on color displays, like the Kindle Fire.
There are plenty of neat diagrams to reduce the need for a Chess Board, and, so they can be be easily identified, pieces names are not foreign capital letters, but figurines, designed for a neat appearance. These are some of the first ebooks with this feature (the symbol of the piece appears instead of its capitalized first letter, so anyone can follow in any language).
These books are aimed at novice and intermediate players, with up to 1700 ELO rating.
For book covers and images inside these books, I used the immense material prepared by Evelyne Nicod for Gatteria. This explains all the cat images, that I find effectively release tension.
Whilst I am an unknown foreign writer, and no chess champion, for one year I have managed to be within the top five in the Chess category. I have also managed to become a bestseller for a short while.
For this I thank the buyers, who are kind enough not to comment on the grammatical errors; I am afraid that I am not able to improve my English any further now, after all these years, and there have not been enough sales at such a low price to pay for a decent language revision for them all.
I hope you ejoy reading the eBooks and your games. Easy and Zen helps!
(I have been asked to explain what was meant in the last sentence; the answer is inside FCP).
