Rocketbook Everlast Smart Notebook A smart paper-and-pen notebook that's endlessly reusable? That's not magic. It's the Rocketbook Everlast.
The Everlast notebook provides a classic pen and paper experience, yet is built for the digital age. Although it feels like a traditional notebook, the Everlast is endlessly reusable and connected to all of your favourite cloud services.
When you write using any pen from the Pilot FriXion line, your writing sticks to Everlast pages like regular paper. But add water and the notebook erases like magic.
The Everlast notebook is compatible with the Rocketbook app. That means before your notes go off the page they go online to destinations like Google Drive, Dropbox, Slack and Evernote — perfectly organised.
You’ve probably seen a few of these smart paper or smart pen things over the years — write in this special notebook and it gets saved to an app, that sort of thing. A new entrant to this niche space is the Everlast notebook, which obviates the necessity of restocking proprietary paper in that its pages can be wiped clean with a damp towel.
The Rocketbook Wave and Everlast Smart Notebooks feel just like regular pen and paper, but are endlessly reusable and fully integrated into the technology era. Using the Frixion line of pens (one of which is included), you can take notes, upload them directly to the cloud, to Evernote, to your email, and more with the Rocketbook app. The Rocketbook Wave notebook is microwavable. When you’ve filled it up, just pop it in the microwave with a glass of water and it will magically erase the ink. The Everlast features pages made from a polyester composite that’s easy to erase with just a drop of water. Just wipe off the ink when it’s full.

The Rocketbook System
By marking symbols on the bottom of each page, you send high resolution images to the destinations you’ve configured in the Rocketbook app. The app “sees” your marks and sends your notes to the places they belong online. Just hold your phone above the book and flip the pages. In milliseconds, the Rocketbook app detects your pages, scans them in, and produces images more crisp and vibrant than the real thing.

The pages inside the notebook are a little plastic like but not to an off putting degree. It's sort of what I expected, a non-porous surface. I like the grid marked on each page which I think is of some assistance when writing or drawing. The grid is visible but not distracting.
The app has improved during my use and is simple to use and does exactly what it should. Pages get uploaded to cloud storage or sent via email, whatever your preferences, without a hitch.
When you have uploaded or finished with a page, it's a simple job to clean it with a damp cloth. Once it's dried, a bit of dry tissue can speed up the job if you're in a hurry, you're ready to go again.
All good so far.
Now the bad news.
During the life of the notebook, a year so far, the covers, in particular the front, have become distorted. They are now far from flat, each has a definite curve. I have tried bending the covers back, I have tried pressing the covers flat with heavy weights for prolonged periods. Nothing seems to work because, sooner rather than later, the covers are curved just as they were before.
It's a shame because other than that issue I was very happy with the product. In all honesty, I am unable to recommend this notebook because it's become a pain in the bum.
UPDATE: The seller has contacted me. Apparently there have been a certain number of notebooks from one production run which had issues with the covers curling.
They have promised to provide me with another notepad. That's certainly increased the customer service kudos. I've updated my rating from 1 star to 2 stars. I will update again when and if I receive the new notepad.
When it comes to wiping and reusing a page, it's as simple as it sounds. Depending on how much water is used the page can sometimes be too wet to write on immediately - try using the dry edge of the cloth to speed this up.
The Rocketbook can be used with any pens from the Pilot Frixion range - I bought a pack of highlighters separately, which are a bit hit and miss as you can see in the photos (scan vs photograph). I think the Rocketbook app needs a bit of work to recognise the highlighters better. The app does a great job of scanning most of the time, and is incredibly useful when automatically sending scans to Google Drive, Evernote etc.
This is a product I can see myself using everyday, and for me is definitely worth the money.
Otherwise, it's perfect to write equations and other engineering things on for work and home which can easily be stored for future reference.
It would be great to have a small notebook which I could keep in my handbag for all those various lists that we all make on scraps of paper.
The only downside is that you have to be careful to make sure that you don't write too close to the border because it may get missed on the scan. Sometimes I have to check the scan to make sure it's captured everything and then rub out and rewrite some bits slightly smaller to get those missed letters at the end of the word.
I still give it 5 stars though
Wait until your ink is dry before turning the page this is not instant
Make sure your cloth is clean
Stick a date on each page as you use it, just in case you don’t leave a page marked for too long.
Like it - and a lot cheaper that an iPad!!!!
Also, it takes ages to clean all the pages. Each page takes about 20 seconds to clean and dry and there are 32 pages so to wipe the whole book takes 10 minutes. The novelty of doing this every couple of weeks soon wears off.
