Comedy starring Rainn Wilson as Robert 'Fish' Fishman, a washed-up heavy metal drummer who hit the big time in the 1980s with rock band Vesuvius, but has languished in obscurity since being unceremoniously kicked out of the band at the height of its fame. Twenty years after having his hopes of stardom so cruelly dashed, Fish unexpectedly gets a second shot at stardom when his nephew's band advertises for a new drummer.

At present this 'USA ONLY' BLU RAY on 20th Century Fox is REGION A LOCKED - so it won't play on our machines unless they're chipped to be 'all regions' (which few are).
Once again crappy Region Coding rears its ugly head.
Until someone on this side of the pond gives "The Rocker" a Region B release - avoid an expensive mistake...
Rainn Wilson stars in this comedy as Robert "Fish" Fishman. After being dumped by Vesuvius, a band he formed, in order to get a shot at the top he's not forgotten and holds a bitter grudge against them. Fast forwarding 20 years later, Fish gets a 2nd shot after his nephews band asks for a replacement drummer for his band.
Story-wise, it's a laugh. It's got a great cast, and Rainn Wilson certainly gives it a good shot. Albeit a bit Jack Black in places, but hey it's following on from School of Rock so i guess it has to. I won't say too much, it's a good movie and well worth a watch.

It's fun, UNIQUE and is one that I've recommended to mates that were like ok i guess I'll give it alittle look but don't look that good but come back to me saying oh my god this is such a great film!!!!!
So Buy it, Buy it Now!!!!
Rock band dumps enthusiastic but inconsistent drummer in order to hit it big,and then does make it big.But dumped drummer, betrayed by the disloylaty, never gets over it.He watches the inexorable rise of his ex-band in the ensuing 20 years(who funnily all develop English accents along the way), while his life is a series of dead end experiences,as he feels cheated by the world.
But,just when it seems he can fall no further, by chance he comes across a small trio(geek;nerdy songwriter;abrasive girl) 20 years his junior who have no real ambition, but make good music and need a drummer. The story is really entertaining as 40 year old drummer gets to live life on the road once more,be young, and do it all over again, only this time....anyway, get the dvd to see what happens, you won't be disappointed. Unlike many films about rock, the music is actually good, and the cathartic moment near the end of the film is priceless.
Good film, good soundtrack - watch it, you wont regret it.
It's a terribly cynical movie, expertly blending the Disney style 'You can be whatever you want to be' nonsense with the Spinal Tap stuff, but I must admit I quite enjoyed it, and had a bit of a sniffle at the end of the film when all the band members found true lurv. These people really are evil.

Brilliant soundtrack, think he tries too hard to be like Jack Black at times, but an enjoyable and watchable movie for rock fans of all ages.Published 22 months ago by Colin Patterson
