There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
I had a slight problem with my pair after a short while, got in touch with Rockjaw (as amazon said my returns window had expired!), and they emailed me back within 24 hours, and then rang me on my phone to sort out the problem. Excellent customer service, sorted my problem out, sent me new headphones next day. Not many customer service people call you personally, other manufacturers take note.
I've read in some reviews people comparing these to Soundmagic E11C headphones. Ive had both, E11C's dont come close, sorry
I've always felt that Sennheiser had more bass compared to other manufactures, and i liked that. That's personal to me, and one of the criteria i use when listening to music. I first heard about the Rock Jaw Alfa Genus V2 Earphones from a review. What caught my attention was the review said these had good bass. I was intrigued, but equally skeptical, I had fallen for this trap before.
The Rock Jaw Alfa Genus V2 Earphones arrived in modest box with easy to open packaging. One minor point i felt, was removing the earphone from the foam packaging. Why? Because you have to use the cable to lift earphone up, which then allows you to take hold and remove it. This puts a strain on the cable connecting to the earphone. A minor drawback. What was in the packaging though was the earphones, a cable clip, 3 pairs of tuning filters, which offer more treble should you want it, and a more natural sound. You also get a case and a range of sleeves. Not to shabby, but the real test is the sound.
Again, skeptical of the bass, i instantly went for a track with bass. One that i felt other earphones would lack in. To my surprise, the bass was there. It wasn't over the top, and saturating the rest of the sound, but rich enough to make it's presence known. A good start, but one track doesn't mean they're a winner. So I tried other styles of music, and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. Mids and trebles were to my liking. Which means i might be onto a winner here.
I still need to burn these in, but so far, i'm impressed. The build quality is equally good. They don't feel cheap, but feel well made. The cable is thick, but not to thick that it's annoying. Yes there is some cable noise, but seriously, you're going to get this with any earphone. I like the design, not outrageous, and not to minimalist that i should worry about them getting stuck in my ear. To me, these feel like a well designed set of earphones.
So a quick run down of Pro's and Con's.
Pros
Good Bass!
Actually good sound all round
Well made
Nice design
Good selection of sleeves and filters
Good price
Well packaged
Good length cable
Cons
minor niggle getting the earphone out of the packaging
As i said, sound is personal, and as such, what is right for one, might not be right for another. However, what i would say is, give them a try, and you might be pleasantly surprised.
One other thing I was impressed by is a presence of interchangeable filters, this is the first time I come across this technology, and I must say it is mindblowing. In the box there are 3 sets of filters Silver - for bass lovers, Gold - natural sound and Black - for increased treble. All of them have a rubber seal to protect the drivers from any moisture. Also you get 3 different types of tips; standard silicone tips in 4 different sizes, double layered, and memory foam in 2 sizes. Must say that memory foam tips are very good, they are comfortable and block out external sound.
As to anything there are few bad points. 1 - I feel that the cable could be just a little bit longer and less bulkier (but then i suppose it adds to durability), maybe RockJaw engineers can consider a slightly thinner braided cables. 2 - The filters are skrewed in a bit too tight to be removed by hand and might require a pair of plyers to aid (maybe it's jut on my pair). But these are just minor engineering issues and they do not in any shape or form affect the amazing sound of these headphones.
So if you are looking for a pair of inexpensive headphones these are in my opinion are the best choice. Hope we'll see more audio equipment from these guys.
