This high quality technology will provide gamers with a rich, detailed, realistic gaming environment to further bring these digital worlds to life.
Hear your opponents coming, watch them fall
Do you enjoy playing first person shooters with headphones? Well, ROCCAT knows that gamers want to hear every sound that happens in their environment as it can be the difference between winning or losing. So if you have asked yourself the question "Where is he?" before, with the ROCCAT Kave you won't have to ever again. A true gaming advantage, because no matter which game you play, you will hear opponents coming from behind or from the sides. So make your opponent's day a little bit worse and yours a lot better and take the next step to becoming a gaming legend.
Sometimes, working as a team is the only way to accomplish a mission and to do so you need clear communication. Included with the ROCCAT Kave is a fully rotatable and completely removable microphone. For the times that you do not wish to accidently giving away information, you can be absolutely certain that communication lines are closed as the ROCCAT Kave microphone comes with a illumination mute LED. This way you can tell whether the microphone is muted, easily as never before.
Hear the noise, feel the comfort
The ROCCAT Kave has been ergonomically designed to ensure that gamers can play in comfort. The three tier bedded pads, equally distribute weight so that the headset is perfectly positioned to maximise the audio effect. The ROCCAT Kave is a solidly made headset with aluminium hinges, to allow for heavy duty gaming that all gamers demand of their audio hardware. To further enhance the luxuriousness of the headset, each ear cup is hand-sewn with soft material to make the comfortable experience even more amazing. The earphones surround the ear which aids in external noise cancelling, so that gamers hear what is most important to them - their opponents.
The ROCCAT Kave has the added ability to switch sound profiles so that you can choose between game and movie sound. So whether you wish to watch a movie or start an intensive gaming session you can select the optimum profile to maximise the surround sound. It is quite a large headset and, depressingly, I thought, relatively heavy. I had read reviews where people found it comfortable but they hated the three padded squares that sit on your head, claiming that they're not padded enough and will give you a headache after a few hours of gaming. Well, I was pleasantly surprised when I put them on for the first time and spent a few hours trying out different games, music and films. I found them very comfortable, I did not get a headache of any kind and nor did my head feel pinched due to lack of padding - in fact, a lot of the time I forgot I was even wearing them, despite being rather heavy to hold for a headset.
The lan came, and from Friday evening on we gamed constantly. From around seven pm until six am the following morning, we played on, and I only left my seat to get a drink or a snack. The headset gave me incredible surround sound - during a game of Prop Hunt, I was amazed when I spectated a friend who, as a hunter, was listening to an extra-long taunt from a prop, moved around the area the prop was in but could not locate it through sound alone - every time he passed the spot the prop sat in, I could hear the sound rising and fading accordingly. It was obvious to me, yet he, even with his good headphones, couldn't pinpoint where the enemy was. We played another game mode in Garry's Mod, Stop It, Slender! When I was alone and a friend, playing as Slenderman, came chasing after me, I could hear exactly where he was and could move accordingly so that I wasn't facing him. My friend found it extremely frustrating trying to catch me, even though he could move faster. The little led that sits on the microphone is a fantastic way of letting you know if it is muted or not - with my old headset I would be talking for a while before noticing that nobody was responding, and I'd look down and see the red light was on. That was annoying, thankfully the Kave provides a blue led that's unobtrusive when on.
I put the headset through it's paces on other games. In Battlefield 4, I heard things that I never did before on my old headset - just a lot more detail in the sound, and though I'd had no complaints about my old headset, I really appreciated just what the Kave was doing for my gaming. Everything felt suitably bombastic in that game, the headphones vibrating ever so slightly whenever a grenade went off near me, or my helicopter was being shot at. I loaded up Napoleon - Total War, and the boom of cannons combined with the screams of dying men and the surging music was amazing. Playing Mount & Blade - Warband, I was more aware than ever when someone was coming up behind me. And again, when playing, I barely notice the headphones, sometimes completely forgetting that I'm wearing them at all. I am more immersed in gaming environments than ever before.
As others have written before, this is definitely a gaming headset and not really suited for music or films, but I tried both. Music did sound a little muddy at times, but it wasn't anything I had any problems with. Films were better - I played several films and had absolutely no problems with the sound, though the Kave didn't give me a reason to watch films while using it, other than to reduce noise for my flatmates. I couldn't discern much of a difference between the game and movie modes on the headset, though voices were perhaps a little clearer, which is what it is intended to do so I guess it is working as it is meant to.
No product is perfect and I do have some quibbles with the Kave... well, two. The first is that the microphone cable is bundled with all the others that come out of a small piece of plastic. They are all the same length and this was a problem for me - I am using onboard sound only and, predictably, have only three audio ports on the rear. The only microphone port on my case is on the front panel, and of course the cable does not reach. I had to use an extension cable and it did the microphone no favours, causing a whirring sound whenever I used the mouse. Not great. I have purchased a dedicated sound card to sort that out, but really would using a longer cable be too much to expect? Despite being a true 5.1 set Roccat should really account for those who only have and are perfectly happy with onboard sound.
My other complaint is with the control panel - it's a little heavy which means you are aware of it when putting the headset on, or standing up and taking it off. I leave it sitting on my lap when I use them, and it's fine, but I do tend to forget that it's rather far down on the cable - by design, and rightly so - and it often falls to the floor when I am taking the headset off and moving away from my desk. I guess I just have to get used to it.
I have no other complaints, and those that I do are more minor quibbles really. The headset is really well made, dressed in that lovely soft material that adorns Roccat mice, and it feels like it could take some real punishment. The microphone is removable and the ear pieces move in just the right way, as do the three pads on the top, meaning it will automatically adjust to fit any head. The sound out of them is incredible, and you will benefit from the advantages it brings while gaming - not so for music, but then these are not a set an audiophile would buy anyway. They are gaming-centric and they matter in every way they need to in that department.
I would only hesitate to approve them to someone if they had only onboard sound. Otherwise, yet another top notch product and a top notch job by Roccat!
No installation necessary all though it does come with some, if you wish but it is generally a plug and play device.
''Comfort'' After wearing these head phones they are the most comfortable pair of head phones I've ever worn, and I've had a pair of TRITTON headphones.
These have great padding around the headset, the ear cups literally cup your ear's making sure no sound comes out, however the headset is a bit on the heavy side, but this does not bother me as I'm used to gaming head phones. These ear cups literally grip like a plunger sucking on to your ear !!!! the world outside disappears and the gaming world begins. ''
''Style'' I actually do not like the style, but what i do like is the little audio controller, it reminds me of the gadgets of the 1980's to 1990's. it has a retro feel to it, and it just looks great !!!!, The head set and audio have some Blue LED'S not a lot, but enough for indication, the general headphones them self's actually follow a simplistic style, which is great, if your wanting a great set of headphones, that aren't complicated with to many buttons, and adjustments.''
''feature's''This headset, has a nice little mute feature and when you are in mute mode, your microphone lights up to say that you are muted. Another feature is that you can change your bass, front and rear speakers, also centre... to any volume you wish. I found this very use full in game, you also have predefined sets for game, and movie's, you can also adjust your headset for larger/smaller head sizes, it has a nice little number indicator so that both sides can be equal. I haven't tested the microphone out properly, but I asked a random person in game, if they could hear me they replied '' you sound crystal clear actually '' this was said before i even mentioned that i have a new headset. The cables are really long this is great for some and not so much for others, Also this head set uses 5.1 analogue cables which is fantastic if you have a 5.1 surround sound card, I'm currently using my on board sound system. The mic also detacthes from the headset if you do not wish to use it, This mic can also bend and twist.''
''GAMING in 5.1''
WOAH I'm blown out of the water with this one, I've had my fair share of experience when it comes to surround sound.. So far I have tested this on left 4 dead 2, and the reason why i chose this game, is because you get ambushed from special infected zombies played by players who can come from above or to the side of you and behind you, they can come from anywhere from a rooftop to a vent in the wall.. the fact is with these head phones YOU CAN HEAR EXACTLY WHERE THEY ARE, my mouse was mm's away from their location, I said to my team mates, there is a charger behind us... he was 40 feet away in distance ?????? None of my friends who have emulated headphones could hear this. everything in game sounded booming, not crystal clear in some places but certainly booming, it felt great, when my friend was to my right firing his AK 47 at zombies all i could think about was HOW AWESOME THAT NOW sounds with these head phones, and it really adds to the realism when somebody fire's a gun rather close to your ear's it just gets louder !!! today I really had the edge on people and I out hunted the hunter..... If you want a nice 5.1 surround sound try these, you will not be disappointed.''
''Durability''
Okay are these durable? I would say they are the most sturdy pair of head phone's I've ever had, again going back to the TRITTON series they are very sturdy, but The Kave just feels less plastic.
they even used aluminum pins for the headset, they do feel for real, if you are looking for a pair of headphones, that look as sturdy as they feel then it's this, they are BEEFY big headphones, and they certainly show it, I wouldn't want to drop it to test it's durability but i can safely say it will last me some years.''
''Pro's''
It comes with an audio device to alter the surround sound to your liking.
It has a mute button and LED's that works with it.
It's big and sturdy and will last many years to come.
The sound output is fantastic giving tactical advantage in any video game.
The volume dial is very nice to the touch.
Easy installation, no drivers necessary.
Comfortable.
Looks stylish not to modern not to retro.
head measurements when adjusting.
Detachable mic
''Con's''
Slightly on the heavy side
Long cable ( debatable )
Thanks for reading this review, after reading so many myself I was very impressed with the con's that were shown, and I have also found the same in those cons, but they do not bother me at all.
These head phones are what you are looking for, if your the sort of person whom watches movie's and Play's games, and your looking for that tactical advantage, with great booming sounds.
