This compilation contains eighty recordings from the twenties, which present a cross-section of jazz, dance bands, and vocalists. Sensibly, the emphasis is on the latter half of the decade, by which time electrical recording had been introduced. Such compilations are becoming commonplace, but the mixture here has been put together in such a way as to present a blend of familiar and less well-known items. Taking the jazz items by way of illustration, Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Fletcher Henderson, Duke Ellington and Jelly Roll Morton are well represented, but you'll find also Earl Hines, Isham Jones, Walter Pichon and Cab Calloway. The tracklist is minimal, but at this price it would be churlish to withhold the fifth star.

A superb collection of music from the 20s, ranging from big bands to individual soloists. All the big names are here, Whiteman, Beiderbecke, Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton etc. and the likes of SophieTucker, Annette Hanshaw, Jimmy Durante and other soloists. The sound quality is excellent.

I've been playing this a lot. I love the sounds (and the amazing surface noise reduction). Many of these tunes I haven't heard since I was little. A nice mix of popular music and jazz from this wonderful era.

The track listings when transferred to my PC were wrong on disc one but hey ho not too bad three stand out tunes which is why I bought the discs and all good, probably wouldn't buy from them again as the listings can't be overwritten

I bought this cd for The wedding of the painted doll and Singing in the rain 1929 version by talented songwriters Herb nacio Brown and Arthur Freed which are two songs very hard to find. Them alone made it worth the money I liked 30 other songs so very pleased with purchase for cheap price. The rest of songs would please jazz fan. Sound is a bit low but I just raised the volume and its nice and clear. Cd case has nice picture.
