Upon realizing that Rishi discontinued the older packaging, I took a risk and ordered the new version. I was immediately disappointed when I opened the loosely packed bag. The fragrance is about 1/5 it's former strength, and its scent notes have changed to a light, jelly bean like flavor. Because it was not vacuum sealed, the pearls release little floating speckles of tea leaves that permeate the cup and never settles to the bottom.
I asked for a refund, and I pray that Rishi's executives learn from this debacle. It is never a good idea to mess with a winning formula.
But also changed taste
We loved this tea before, being the best of thr best,
Now just average
I have to mention that the bag was not tightly vacuum sealed as these other reviews have noted, but it's still a foil bag with almost no air, and I personally feel that it doesn't take away from the smell or flavor. I've emailed Rishi to see why this change was made so I'll get back with their answer.
I've been drinking this tea - and only this tea - for the past week. I drink it primarily at work during the day, and brew 2-3 cups from each serving of pearls. The smelling note is very flower blossom-forward, but the taste is heavenly. I don't feel that the new packaging detracts from the flavor, and Rishi includes a pamphlet showing the environmental impact (much better) of using the new one. I'll miss the tins, they were nice, but I don't know if this tea will last long enough for me to risk it going stale.
I get lots of compliments/questions from people at work, because they wonder what the little green balls are that I'm pouring hot water over. I think they're jealous!
