A Complete Look At Roosevelt's Life

Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th American President and the youngest person to assume that office (JFK is the youngest to be voted into the position). Edmund Morris has written a three part biography of his life. The first book examines the 42 years till he assumed the Presidency. The second book looks at the 7.5 years he was in office. The third book looks at the 10 years after he left the White House.

If you're interested in Roosevelt's life and think you can read over 2500 pages about the guy, this set of books is for you. I won't review each book individually (I don't think I can do each justice here, if you're interested I'd recommend you look at each book in turn), but I don't think you could find a more detailed, and interesting, look at anyone's as you find here.

The book arrived which is a positive however even after purchasing a new one on-purpose I received one with scuffs and folds to the edges and with the front cover being slightly too small for the book which is a shame due to it being a Christmas present.

First volume of three that looks at the whole life of TDR. In some respects I enjoyed this volume the best. It charts TDR's story from boyhood and concludes with him receiving the news that he would become President. It is true that even in this volume he did enough for ten lifetimes! Brilliant history and highly recommended.

This book is excellent for three contrasting reasons; primarily it is a detailed, accurate and revealing biography of, arguably, one of the finest statesmen of all time; secondly reading the book gives you a sense of a young Roosevelt's drive and ambition which inspires the reader to lead a more purposeful life; finally it is an exceptional historical piece which contextualizes the rise of Roosevelt within the second half of 19th century.

I've read the book twice now and I'm sure I'll be picking it up again in the future.
