I have only recently discovered Darrell Maloney's work and I am loving it! I loved his Final Dawn series and I love this series just as much. There are some similarities, (but then again there would be), in both series - but this doesn't detract from a great end of the world story. Can't wait for number 4 in this series - highly recommend!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice continuation... 29 May 2014

I wasn't too happy with book two but this one, book three, was much better. Now we are starting to see humanity's ugly side which is more realistic. I love the characters in this series. They grow on you. I think my biggest complaint would be that the author should have more confidence that he has a following with his readers and quit putting in "teaser's" at the end of his books!! We are being ripped off of several more pages of reading because of it....or he's introducing other books he's written. I don't feel it's right.

I though this was the last in the series but now I have to wait until August for the next installment. It is much better it you read them in order so you understand what is going on. I have laughed and cried while reading this book. I would love to meet people like his characters., they would be wonderful friends and neighbors. It is really a great read, I read until I couldn't keep my eyes open and started again again as soon as I got up. It is a good thing I am retired and didn't have to go to work.

3.0 out of 5 stars It is a good read, and I would have given another star ... 13 Aug. 2014

It is a good read, and I would have given another star or two, but too much of the book was taken with rehashing of previous books in the series. Even more of the next book in the series because all of the previous books plus this one are rehashed at the beginning before one gets to the "beginning" of the book. This will probably be the last one I read, as I am sure there is more rehashing of the entire series. Too much hash before a meal and one looses interest in the main course.
3.0 out of 5 stars Good information, thin characters 16 Aug. 2015

Great information, but one dimensional storytelling. I started reading this series for a couple of different reasons. One, information. Two, entertainment. I got the information, and it was good, solid stuff. The entertainment factor started waning as I realized the author (who seems capable of REALLY writing - I see the potential) was going to keep the characters very one-dimensional and the story line on the vanilla side. I started feeling he was writing for his church group or only for a specific group of preppers that he didn't want to offend. Yes, we get the idea you are trying to push the fact that your protagonist is not a looter. Everyone is trying to survive. No one in this predicament would worry about leaving a bank check or IOU after months of no real social order and it was apparent society, as we know it, has collapsed. It's okay. Don't leave a check or a note in the store or truck that has already been plundered by 10 different groups. People are dying. People are killing. Save yourself and the people you love. Help the police and government. Don't freak out over all the small stuff.

Mr. Maloney, you really have a lot of potential. Seriously. And I read this 3 book set, so obviously I found something there engaging. The information was great, and I appreciate that. I understand where your moral compass lies, and I appreciate that as well. But you can open up a little. The cliches of the country folk get a bit old. I have friends and family that live in Seguin, San Antone and the Kerrville area. Some of them actually curse, drink and smoke. They own livestock, and yes they do go dancing at Gruene Hall, lol. I just think you can expand your characters a bit, sir. Thank you for the read(s).
5.0 out of 5 stars This is a can't put down series! 21 Jan. 2016

This has been an adventure indeed. I lived in the San Antonio area during WWIi - in Junction before that. You haven done. An excellent job of writing about the area salad brought it to life for others. The concept of an EMP is one many people h ave never considered. And it can happen! It should be taken seriously. Thanks for your .talent and stick-to-it determination we are given knowledge we mighten have otherwise. I have enjoyed reading your books very much. Your talent is great. I admit I am envious.
