About the Author

It took thirty years for Alicia to accept her calling as a writer of "unusual stories." Always writing edgy tales that pushed the envelope. She learned to hide her violent, controversial, heart-pumping,and tragically romantic stories from family and friends. It wasn't until she joined a local writer's group that she began to share her stories openly and take the plunge. Alicia writes for both new adults and adults with her brand of multicultural supernatural thrillers, urban fantasy, paranormal, and horror. Her stories always include strong women heroines who fight back, sometimes to the death. Alicia's influences are Octavia Butler, LA Banks, Faith Hunter, Patricia Briggs, and Laurell K. Hamilton. Alicia is an activist in the movement towards diversifying Science fiction and Fantasy (#diversityinsff). She created the first "State of Black Science Fiction 2012" blog tour, is an active member in the State of Black Science Fiction FaceBook group and has a ScoopIt page where she actively curates topics related to Afrofuturism, Black Science Fiction, and Black Speculative fiction. Alicia is a native Detroiter who currently resides in metro Atlanta. She works as a media specialist or school librarian in a local school district. Alicia enjoys spending time with her husband and son. Alicia's adult series mixes African-American women's fiction with dark urban fantasy. Check out the Soul Eater series. 3.0 out of 5 stars Rise of an African Elemental 7 May 2016

This is a confusing, sad book. I see so many twisted lives. The people seem to both cherish their young and then actually use them, to the point of taking their young lives. For what?? Power ..seems to be the answer. Control over the lives of others. The tale brings in so many ancient beliefs from their AFRICAN HERITAGE. The beliefs in so many gods and entities who will ask for I and require BLOOD. NOT JUST BLOOD , BUT THAT OF INNOCENT CHILDREN. I HOPE THIS IS ALL FABRICATED...IT'S SO DARK AND HORRIFIC. BUT NOT IN AN ENTERTAINING WAY. IT'S LIKE YOU AS RE SUPPOSED TO BELIEVE. I CAN'T! Not sure I can RECOMMEND this for ages under 18 yrs. To Dark and DEPRESSING.

I'm not sure what's going on in this story. It was hard to keep track of who was who and what's going on. I felt like I step in the middle of the story and miss the beginning .
4.0 out of 5 stars Frustratingly good. 8 Dec. 2016

This book is frustratingly good in that the main character is just such a weakling! She literally drive me to drink. I had to put the book down several times because of it. Which really speaks to the writer's power. Compelling storyline and fast but frustrating action is there in spades. I'm going to see if the next installment is available right now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very exciting and I love that it's based on African lore 17 Jun. 2015

Very exciting and I love that it's based on African lore. I will be happy when Shania stops doubting herself and becomes the warrior she is destined to be. At this point her young daughter has more sense and bravery than she does.
5.0 out of 5 stars Movie anyone. 1 Aug. 2015

Amazing with so much detail would love for it to be a movie. I let my sister read it and now she doesn't want to return it. I can't wait for the next release.
