It’s a jungle out there for Blu, Jewel and their three kids in RIO 2, after they’re hurtled from that magical city to the wilds of the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in, he goes beak-to-beak with the vengeful Nigel, and meets the most fearsome adversary of all – his father-in-law. All our favourite RIO characters are back, and they’re joined by Oscar nominee Andy Garcia, Grammy winner Bruno Mars, Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth and Oscar/Emmy/Tony winner Rita Moreno. RIO 2 also features new Brazilian artists and original music by Janelle Monae and Wondaland.

The main thing that holds the film together and makes it something special is the music and the animations. Both are exceptional and something out of the ordinary.
Rio 2 is based in the Amazon as opposed to Rio de Janeiro. Blu and Jewel are off to the Amazon to find long lost family. They now have their 3 children. They are chased and stalked by Nigel the cockatoo!.....
I didn't think it was quite as cleverly made as the original Rio, but nevertheless it is still good and great fun for children.
Blu and Jewel are Blue Spix’s Macaws that live in Rio de Janeiro with their three children under the care of their owners who run the Brazilian Bird Clinic and Sanctuary. Blu is a domesticated bird from Minnesota and Jewel was rescued from the wild when it was thought she was the last known female of her species. The two birds now raise their children and teach them what they know. Blu makes pancakes and lets the kids watch TV and listen to music on MP3 players. Jewel tries to teach her children survival skills from the wild, but the kids think it’s lame. Blu is happy living the domesticated lifestyle, but Jewel yearns to be in the wild.
Meanwhile in the Amazon rainforest, Blu and Jewel’s owners are releasing a rehabilitated bird back into the wild. They get back into their canoe and row down the river. Unbeknownst to them, the river is filled with rapids and a large water fall. The canoe is tossed and turned all over the place and eventually crashes on a secluded river bed. They get out and make a huge discovery: more Blue Spix’s Macaws exist. Tulio and Linda stumble upon a large flock of Macaws that survived the rainforest’s deforestation by creating a new habitat far away from human destruction.
The discovery makes Brazilian network television which Blu and Jewel are watching. Excited that more birds exist, Jewel wants to fly with the family back to the Amazon to see if she can find some of her long-lost relatives.Read more ›
Bought it as my nieces had enjoyed original so much. I have only watched it once so far but although it is enjoyable I didn't enjoy it as much as original but this could have been due to distractions. I am sure many younger children would enjoy it.
Having owned the first Rio, my two year old daughter was keen for Rio 2. It hasn't disappointed us. It kept her attention all the way through, there was some lovely songs and music clips she sang along too and a large variety of different birds and animals. Something for ever viewer.
Quality is excellent and if you like animation you will like this.
People consider animation a child/young persons thing but the script is very good
and it is an excellent comedy so most adults will enjoy too
