i bought this as it has the best views and has won many awards, i can see why!

it comes in a great, neat little zip up case and stores neatly in the car, its so easy to use and i love the fact you can digitally set the pressure you want, set it running and walk away. It automatically inflates the tyre to the desired pressure and then shuts off for you. Its really powerful too, i was skeptical that it would be able to cope with a flat on my hilux as they are big over sized wheels that i run at over 40psi. The petrol station air pumps really struggle to pump them up from flat, but not this little pump! It says it can inflate a tyre in 3 minutes i believe; well if im honest it took more like 10 or 12 to fully inflate my large tyres from flat, but im really not complaining, it got the job done well and didnt overheat or sound like it was struggling one bit. I suppose it is a little noisy but then it is working hard!

I would HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone, the price is great, the size is great and the function is superb!

Having a foot pump in the car boot is ideal for emergencies but if like me you've had a new tyre fitted recently you will probably have experienced the full deflation and replacement of air in all 4 tyres with nitrogen (that's another story) to what you might call the garage's interpretation of default pressure settings for every small car on the planet.

This maybe fine for some folks but for me I had the task of inflating 4 tyres to manufacturer settings with a pump that became decidedly hot by the time I came to inflate the last tyre. Not good methinks.

Step forward the Ring RAC600 which will do the job of checking/inflating 4 tyres in the time it takes to manually foot pump one.

I checked this pump via other car websites and found it had an excellent rating although one or two stated that it under inflates by 1.5 psi. At the moment I have no way of verifying that but given that a small metal foot pump is hardly likely to be that accurate either at least regular checking of tyres will now be much easier and quicker.

The RAC600 is very tiny and compact and yes it does make a bit of racket, probably not for the confines of the garage, but for the regular car tyre checker the use will be minimal anyway.

Cannot verify what it is like for other inflatable items but for a piece of car kit this is excellent.

UPDATE November 2013.

Recently I suffered a slow puncture and had to visit those darn fine chaps at ATS. As I had only just inflated my tyres with the aforesaid Ring wotnot, when ATS checked ALL my tyre pressures as is their wont, I was informed that my pump was pretty near spot-on. Hallowed praise indeed.

I have previously used a Michelin electric air compressor which was very quick and very good quality, but I was unwilling to spend the £40 or so on the price tag. So seeing as this had good reviews, I gave it a shot.

The size of the item is fairly small, its lightweight which allows for easy storage and operation. It comes with a good length of cable which fits into the cigarette lighter for power, and the pipe for the air is also flexible and fairly sturdy.

The unit works as it should and inflates the tyre with relative ease. The attachment which goes into the tyre valve screws in (as opposed to other type which snap/clicks into place). This is far easier as you dont have to faff about trying to get a secure fit.

Being an air compressor, it's expected to be noisy, though it's nowhere near loud enough to cause concern from any neighbours which is a good thing.

The one downside to this item is that the compartment which stows away the cable is fairly small, which may lead you to fiddle about trying to squeeze it all in, so you can fit it into its carry case. This can be especially troublesome as it takes up a few minutes, and considering the purpose of the item is to save you time over a traditional foot-pump, is a shame. A retractable cable or a bigger compartment for the wire itself may have been more useful.

Other than that, this is a solid item that I would recommend, as the low price and general ease of operation make this a must-have for most car boots.

My original Ring digital tyre inflator recently went missing when my car went in for an accident repair, so when I came to replacing it, this was an obvious choice. I'm not sure of the model number of my previous one, but this is very similar, just a little more rounded and modern-looking. It still has all the features I love, including automatic stop when the set pressure is released, and a light that can be used to illuminate the area when working at night, or as an SOS lamp to attract attention in an emergency. The product is advertised as being able to inflate a tyre from flat in just three and a half minutes - I haven't tested this, but can easily believe it. I top up the tyres on my 2008 Fiesta monthly, and it takes a matter of seconds per tyre. The carry case is great for keeping the kit safe while in my boot, and the long power cable is a must as it makes it easy to reach all four tyres. In summary, a great quality, good value digital tyre pump that has all the features most drivers will need, and an endorsement from the RAC for added peace of mind.
