The Powering Mains to Cigarette Lighter Socket adaptor performed admirably on our recent holiday. We used an electric travel cool box plugged into our car lighter socket during our journey and a mains socket via the Powering adaptor overnight so that we could keep milk fresh for our arrival in France on a Sunday where all the shops are closed.
On the return part of the journey we were able to bring back items from our self catering holiday that we would have had to throw out, so saving food being wasted.
The Powering socket adaptor also worked well with a travel adaptor when we were in France.

The adapter is OK when running some things such as a cooler or hand-held car vac. It will not start when trying to use the tyre inflator. I measured the current drawn by the inflator from my car battery, it was around 4A. The adaptor is rated at 5A so should run the inflator but the initial current surge causes the adaptor to trip, this initial surge is typical of a DC motor. To me this is a design fault as the steady load rating should not also be the startup surge limit. In any case the adaptor is advertised as suitable for inflators which it clearly is not.

It's things like this that re-affirm my faith in the world of gadgets. No longer do I need to plug an air compressor into a car cigarette lighter socket. If you think about the number of things which can be powered from this, such as sat nav's, iPods, portable coolers, compressors etc it seems like a bargain.

Note the 5A limit. If you try to power something with a higher current drain, the circuit breaker will cut the power.

This item is great, works a treat, my in car cooler takes about 15-20 mins to start getting cold in the car but it started getting cold after about 5 mins using this in the house with it, I would recommend it.

PLEASE BE AWARE THIS MAINS ADAPTOR WILL NOT POWER A RING 630 240V MAINS TO 12V AIR COMPRESSOR THEY ARE ONLY SUITABLE TO POWER UP TO 5 AMPS WHERE AS THE RING 630 AIR COMPRESSOR REQUIRES A 240V X 12V 10 AMP ADAPTOR.
AMAZON ARE WRONG TO STATE THESE ARE COMPATIBLE TO BE BOUGHT TOGETHER.
DO NOT BE CAUGHT OUT AS I DID.

Having read the reviews for many electric tyre pumps, I opted for the RAC630 in conjunction with this power mains adapter.

Unfortunately, the mains plug was broken - the top would not screw onto the main section due to a broken screw housing in the top part. When I took it out of the carton it just fell off so whoever packed the thing had just ignored the problem. I would have been happy to replace the plug, but as the main product was such utter garbage I'm returning both items and I will not seek a replacement for either.

This thing is actually OK, but gets one star from me as Amazon constantly flag it as being bought together with the Ring 630 air compressor. Amazon should prevent this from happenning, as it is highly misleading. THEY WILL NOT WORK TOGETHER! This accessory is for items up to 5A. The RAC 630 requires 10A. Don't be fooled as I was.

Yes I am sure it is wonderful but unfortunately although it is a 240 volt to 12 volt transformer it only goes to 5amps and the tyre inflator that I bought requires 7.5 amps so I shall have to flog it on e-bay and start looking for one with a higher amperage(my fault entirely)
