Their paths collide as do their hearts and minds and these two are perfect for each other but new opportunities arise for both of them that challenge their fragile new love affair.
Great characters - Maggie is hilarious and enchantingly self deprecating, Drew is fun and so sexy & sweet....swoonworthy for sure.
Maggie Hayes is a creator of all sorts of naughty sweet baked goods. Seriously it will make you hungry just thinking about them, all I wanted was a cupcake. After her dream bakery in Manhattan shuts down from competition down the road she finds herself heading back home to her teenage room with her parents to regroup. She has no long term plans to stick around, just long enough to get a plan together. She soon finds being home has a very big perk though when her mother tells her Drew – her high school crush and old boy-next-door – is back in Philly too. Things might soon be looking up or I guess when you get to it down, as that’s the direction she falls into something sweet.
Drew Delaney was the boy-next-door turned boy band star that still manages to get her pulse racing with just the mention of his name. The first crush is usually the hardest to get over but when you see that said boy crush has turned into one hell of a hot man you can see why it might heat up again. Seems the cake disaster soon turns into something a whole lot sweeter. The moment Drew sees Maggie all grown up he wants a taste and not just one. He seems happy to be home in Philly building a new life behind the scenes with music, more so than he ever did when he was in the lime light but that call is never too far away. Coming home was what felt right to him with his career but it seems meeting that someone special might be what he was looking for all along.
Seems the c*ck-cake miscommunication turns into something good when Maggie’s certain skills are sort after. The naughtier the better they say and she can certainly think up some creative ideas. That’s not all she is creative with as her and Drew soon start reliving some high school pastimes – making out in the back seat of a car, under the bleachers, a school classroom. They might start out innocent enough but the pull and heat coming from those two you know it’s not long before the clothes started flying. Embarrassing moments do seem to follow them both but that just makes for a great funny read, wondering what they are going to get caught doing next. Chemistry and banter is off the charts for these two but is this just a bit of fun to pass the time or could it be for keeps? Mr. Right-Now or Mr. Forever?
Can’t have a funny comedy romance read without some drama too and it comes along for the ride trying to cause trouble. Lets hope this sugary sweet couple can stick together. Great side characters too with each of their sisters, his old band mate and her mother. She certainly tried to get her daughter to revert back to teenager mode when she came back to stay. Loved the bachelorette party and a certain favour she ropes Drew into helping with. She definitely returned the favour in kind. Couldn’t think of a better ending either, as cracking as the start. Another great read by Lila and I would definitely recommend her books.
I received this ARC from the author for my honest review.
Anyway, back to Mr. Right Now... have I said that I loved it? It made me laugh so hard and smile even harder. I'm telling you, my cheeks still haven't forgiven me! It just had the right balance of tongue in cheek and flirting to make it an adult version of a fairytale. This is very much a Cinderella-esque retelling. Minus the ugly step-sisters, but bitchy Becky more than made up for it. So... Anyhoo, with the exception of Becky and at first Charlie (both secondary characters) I absolutely loved the cast of this book. Drew was every bit the sexy Pop Prince... like a super duper sexier version of Gary Barlow. If you're not up to scratch on your Take That... he's the brains and talent of the operation (ahem... band). If you're not British you may not get what I'm going on about, but YouTube will be more than happy to help you! *wink*wink*
So, Drew. Although he is every bit drop dead sexy gorgeous AND he's like super duper nice— albeit still an animal in bed —he also has a very real element to him. In fact, one of the things I loved about this book and its characters was that it wasn't all farfetched and completely unfeasible. Nothing happens which makes you double take in order to wrap your head around it because it's so preposterous. I got completely lost in this story because it was so real. Don't get me wrong though, the "real" things that happen are so wildly funny or touching that you have that whole sad tears turn into happy, hysterical tears thing going on constantly.
When it came to Maggie I just loved her from beginning to end. Although, towards the end both she and Drew were gearing themselves up for a beating! Again, like Drew, Maggie is very real. She's the ultimate girl next door. She's attainable but at the same time she's on a pedestal. However, her clumsiness is what makes her... oh, and her sharp witty tongue. I found myself really relating to her and falling in love with her over and over again.
Plot wise, this wasn't the most original, BUT, it was told in such a refreshing way and together with characters that weren't constantly second guessing and feeling sorry for themselves... it was just killer to me. I quite literally could've re-read this book straight after finishing it! My only complaint is that I really wanted more of an insight further into the future... basically, Lulu, McKenna and Charlie rocked my world so much as secondary characters that I wanted to more of them. I'm totally feeling a few more stories needing to be told. I want to see McKenna find her Mr. Right too! I want more! Now! Pleeeeeease...
