Rick Lomas was born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England a long time ago. After a pretty good education Rick failed to fit into any job properly and decided it was much better to just play bass guitar in a rock band and have a good time, which is what he did for most of the 1980s.
Since then Rick has gone on to do 'proper' jobs, the longest being at Reed Elsevier in London. It was at Reed where Rick learnt a lot about the printed word and writing in general. Rick says, "When I worked for Reed I had to write a lot of technical manuals to teach some of the old print guys how to use the new computer printing technology. It was quite an eye opener to see how different people coped with new technology".
Computers were never a thing Rick had at home until the mid 1990s when he built a home recording studio based around an Atari ST. Later on he bought a PC and then became addicted to the internet and the whole online world that had opened up before him. Making web sites and working online has become the norm for Rick. The intention was to free himself of geographical restrictions rather than make tons of money. This has happened to some extent. Rick tries to spend about one third of his time in France, a third in Spain and the other third in England. It doesn't always work out quite like this though.
Rick is married to author Susan Lomas and helped her publish her first book 'The History of Serre Chevalier and Briançon' in December 2012. Since then he has decided to write some books himself about topics he likes. Rick likes travelling, bicycles, music, motorhomes, internet marketing and being happy.
