Richard Kinsella was born in Dundee, Scotland. At seventeen he joined the Merchant Navy as a deck cadet becoming a qualified Master Mariner ten years later. With the increasing responsibilities of a growing family he left the sea and worked ashore in the financial sector. To maintain his connection with the sea he obtained a commission in the Royal Naval Reserve. Fifteen years later he was recalled to the regular navy as a Lieutenant-Commander. Retiring in 2004 his first novel'Quartermaster'was published in 2006. His writing is influenced by his knolwledge of ships and the sea. His characters are based on experiences and knowledge of people from a wide section of society. His second book 'Still Waters' a sequel to 'Quartermaster', will be available early in 2011.
