I bought the signed limited edition, and although it doesn’t state it – it is the deluxe version with 6 extra tracks, a complete steal.

This is likely to be the most beautifully lyrical album you will hear this year and a long time after. I heard Breathe on YouTube when he sang it for Burberry and I took a chance on his first gig. My mate and I were speechless at just how good this guy was. Rhodes has a heartbreakingly beautiful voice, and he’s a phenomenal singer, and at such a young age to have such a strong debut, I easily include him with the very best singers Britain has ever produced. Live, it silences audiences to pin-drop quiet and makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. As a performer and songwriter he has emerged ‘fully-formed’ as an artist in his own right, there is no one who Rhodes sounds like. There are notes of the great Jeff Buckley, maybe Sam Smith, maybe Coldplay, but these are cursory comparisons that do not do justice to his uniqueness.

This debut album should be by rights phenomenally successful. Much of the production is understated voice and piano-led. The quality of the songs is stunning. Raise Your Love, Breathe, Let It All Go (Rhodes and Birdy), Better, are favourites. His cover of Taylor Swift’s Blank Space is breathtaking, and Taylor Swift thought so too! The deluxe version has enough quality songs as bonus tracks to make you feel Rhodes has been short changed! Seriously? All that for the cost of one CD?
If Wishes isn’t Mercury nominated I will lose all trust in the judging. I think it will take just one track to break this album and propel Rhodes into the stratosphere. Watch this space!

This may sound like rhetoric, but I sincerely believe he is that good. Artists like Rhodes emerge once in a blue moon, give this album a chance and you won't regret it.

After numerous ep releases the full debut album by Rhodes is definitely worth the wait. Throughout, its fragile and haunting compositions are never over complicated and several songs soar and climb to sumptuous crescendos (ie.single 'Close Your Eyes'). Although it maybe a little too brittle in places you can't escape the 'presence' of this album. For a few extra quid it's definitely worth getting hold of the deluxe version with 6 extra tracks... of which the song 'Run' is achingly beautiful (particularly alongside the official video...see youtube). For a debut release this is a very assured collection of songs.

By The Wolf TOP 50 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on 20 Sept. 2015
Format: Audio CD
Redoubtable son of Hertfordshire (Baldock or so I'm told) David Rhodes has delivered a
commendable debut with his album 'Wishes'. It would seem that the bright lights beckon.

He has a fine voice; a flexible high tenor in timbre with just the right amount of sweetness.
This collection of twelve songs is a somewhat melancholy affair. Other than the inevitable
remixes which will doubtless follow this is certainly not music designed to fill a dancefloor.

The tunes are on the whole strong; some of them, indeed, linger long in our memory. The
arrangements, built substantially around acoustic guitar and piano motifs, are well-wrought.

The best of the bunch would have to include 'You & I' in which we catch glimpses of a fine
falsetto set within a shimmering percussion-laden backdrop and rich vocal harmonies;
'Somebody', a dreamy confection, which has a quaintly old-fashioned romantic quality;
'Losing It', a haunting stripped-down affair blessed with a wonderfully fragile but passionate
vocal performance and the lovely single 'Let It All Go' (a duet with Ms Birdy) which strums
our heartstrings effortlessly with its self-evident chemistry and powerfully affecting melody.

I think we shall be hearing more from young Mr Rhodes.

It's rare that I like every track on an album, this one is excellent from start to finish. I bought the MP3 download version and was disappointed that there was no option for the deluxe version with the extra tracks.

A new voice to be reckoned with. Haunting melodies such as Breathe and the title track send shivers up the spine, delivered with an honesty
reminiscent of Jeff Buckley coupled with the song-writing craft of Rufus Wainwright. A stunning debut!

I first heard Rhodes on a Glastonbury TV programme, I was wowed and have looked for an album ever since. I was lucky enough to get a signed copy. It is breathtaking, I absolutely love it, so much so I have played it over and over the past three days in my car on a recent business trip. Rarely do I love an entire album, I cannot fault it......fantastic well done Rhodes I look forward to the next album

One of the most talented of a plethora of modern young artists. Not a single track disappoints and this young man has an incredibly bright future. Superb!!
