In the Fifties and early Sixties Capitol records was among the finest record labels, both for the exceptional sound quality and the list of great artists, some of which they helped to raise to world fame and some which already were known as among the greatest, like Nathan Milstein, Leopold Stokowski, Erich Leinsdorf, Michael Rabin, William Steinberg, etc.
The magical brew that resulted, made of spectacular sound and great playing, made their recordings immensely valuable, as is the case of this CD, where Rudolf Firkusny, a truly great pianist, almost unknown today, plays some of Brahms' piano works, among which the beautiful, but rarely performed Rhapsody in G Minor.
This one is a difficult to find, rare CD, since EMI, after remastering and publishing it in the early 90's, lost interest and never re-printed it.
I suggest to all piano enthusiasts to snatch it immediately, before it disappears into complete, total oblivion...
