2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing end (for now) to series 18 Aug. 2014
By Medievalist - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
The author says she "was writing as fast as [she] could" and it shows. The book would have been better with the material about her main characters that she says was dropped from the first draft and without so much description of Portuguese architecture. It will be incomprehensible to anyone who hasn't read the rest of the series. I'm sorry for the troubles that put her under such pressure. I have no way of knowing whether her publisher held her to a deadline or she simply had to free herself of the obligation, but I would gladly have waited another year for a better book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wraps up some major plot points in this series! 29 Sept. 2014
By Karissa Eckert - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This is the ninth book in the Greywalker series. I have really enjoyed this investigative urban fantasy series and how each book focuses on a new topic. This was a wonderful continuation of the series in which the vampire necromancer Carlos plays a large role.

I listened to this on audiobook and the audiobook was very well done. The narrator for this series sounds exactly like I imagine Harper would sound. She also does a great job distinguishing between character voices and adding emotion to her narration. Definitely a series I would recommend listening to on audiobook if you like audiobooks.

In this book Harper rushes over to Europe after getting an urgent request for her help from Quintin, Carlos accompanies her. Quintin has uncovered a plot initiated by his father to take out vast portions of Europe; the whole scheme involves a bone mage cult.

This was a well done continuation of the Greywalker series. A lot of major plot points are wrapped up in this book. I enjoyed that Harper and Quintin were actually both in the story together again.

Harper has grown a lot throughout this series. She’s become a very able Greywalker and makes good decisions when she is navigating the Grey. I love that her and Quintin have a loving a stable relationship and trust each other implicitly. There isn’t a ton of romance in this book, but I have enjoyed watching Harper and Quintin form a stable relationship with one another.

We spend a lot of time with Quintin’s family in this story. Quintin's fathers is causing most of the issues here, so he is in the story quite a bit. We also meet Quintin's sister and niece.

There is a lot of history on Carlos, he features in the story a ton. We learn how he ended up becoming both a vampire and a necromancer. We also learn about his family and wife. The majority of the story takes place in Portugal, so we get to learn a lot about the history of that country and about some of the traditions there.

As I have mentioned before this won’t be the type of urban fantasy everyone will love. Richardson has a very analytical and precise writing style, she gives a lot of information to the reader quickly and has a lot of detail. I really enjoy this style and I love how Richardson does research into a new place/topic every book. In this book we learn a ton about Portugal and Portuguese traditions.

Overall I continue to really enjoy this investigative urban fantasy series. All the books in this series have had excellent mysteries with a heavy dose of paranormal/ghost elements. I love that some of the major plot points were wrapped up and am curious to see what adventures the future holds for Harper and Quintin.

3.0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Concept Whose Time Has Passed 1 Sept. 2014
By kendyZdad - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
The early Greywalker books were awesome and a lot of fun. However, much like the Brady Bunch (or was it Happy Days? or both?) heading off to Hawaii you can tell a series is losing touch when they feel a need to change venues. Here we get to go to Europe and see all new ghosts, and it's kinda boring.

Even more troubling are the descriptions of the grey, which were interesting in the early books but are now mostly repetitive and reduce the impact of the story. It's become quite deus ex machina where any time the story needs a good our pops the grey!

I'd like to see Richardson start a new series. This one appears played out, but she's a good writer with an excellent imagination.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book! 9 Aug. 2014
By Tina C - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I was so looking forward to this book and very curious about how the series would end. It was worth every minute of the wait. I loved the new details about Carlos who has always been my favorite character. The insights into his past and present day "unlife" were fascinating. I am sad this series is ending and hope that Kat Richardson will someday grace us with another story based on these fun and interesting characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars May be the last Greywalker but doesn't disappoint 29 Aug. 2014
By Wanda L. Pease - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I met Kat Richardson at a Con in Seattle when she read from the manuscript of Downpour. I hadn't read her books but a friend was a dedicated fan so I bought Greywalker and was hooked. Went back to Amazon and have bought all the books, several as pre-orders.

Harper Blaine is tough, caring and determined. In this book she takes Carlos the Necromancer back to his home in Lisbon and the family acreage to stop Quentin's father and the powerful group of mages from destroying the world with bones and magic.

The bones come from the ossuaries, or bone chapels of Portugal and other European countries where they have been collected and built into churches and chapels as decorations to remind the worshippers of the ultimate fate of the body. These bones can be pieced together with manipulation into something to destroy humanity.

It's Harper, Quentin, and Carlos to the the rescue. They battle in a foreign land that is so steeped in history, earthquake, war and horrors lurking in the temporaclines to dazzle Harper. Ghosts are everywhere.

A page turner!
