The Yamato was a Japanese Second World War battleship. Its 460 mm heavy artillery had the largest calibre yet used aboard ship. The ship was built in 1941 at the naval shipyard at Kure and was used in the War in the Pacific. On 7th April 1945 the Yamato was sunk by US carrier-borne aircraft 300 km south of the Japanese island of Kyushu.

The ships is waterline, which means she has a flat bottom and no keel and propellers. The Hull on mine was a little warped on the bottom but the top where it meets the deck was not an issue. The deck is one large piece with three pins underneath that snap fit into the hulls three location holes. I removed the holes and glued the hull down. when the deck is is place you will notice a thick ledge on the edge that, depending how you feel, can be removed or left in place.
The Superstructure comes in two halves and simply glues together. The secondary guns are very small and EXTREMELY fragile, take great care with these, open up all the locating holes in the hull as the pins on the guns will not fit. The main 18" guns will need some cleaning up but in all look very good, again open up the holes where they locate and there is some interference there.
The funnel is two halves and needs a clean up and depending how you feel, you can open the top up. The Aircraft for the rear are actually very well moulded and are the best parts of this kit, simple construction onto their catapults and then onto the rar deck next.
The one major problem with this kit is that who ever made it forget to add the mast!! In order to get this kit even looking decent the mast has to be scratch built, I used 0.6mm wire for this task and it matches up well. I intend to rig this as best as I can but can't seem to get round to doing it yet.
A decent little kit as many of Revell's older kits are, but it needs extra work to look good, this is not an out of the box easy build and I would not recommend it for the younger builders due to small parts.
