One of America's best-selling and best-loved folk artists Lucy Kaplansky returns with 'Reunion', her first new album since 2007. Called 'the troubadour laureate of modern city folk' by the Boston Globe and lauded by everyone from the New York Times to Rolling Stone, she has continued to tour and perform extensively to a wide and enthusiastic fan base all five years since that release. And this is the terrific fully-realized album her fans have been waiting for. Beautifully written, recorded, designed and packaged around the stirring theme of family history and where we come from, it is a stunning country-tinged work of art whose melodic and harmonized tracks are certain to garner lots of airplay on specialist radio. Features performances by Richard Shindell, Buddy Miller, John Gorka, Eliza Gilkyson, and Jonatha Brooke.

thing of beauty. Her gorgeously warm voice, unforced and easy on the
ear, imbues these eleven songs with a gently flowing grace; the kind
of musical experience which works its way into your heart by stealth.
Overall its a pretty restrained affair (one can't imagine her ever quite
breaking a sweat) and therein lays the album's understated charm. She
knows instinctively what to leave in and what to leave out. Less-is-more
is the order of the day and her sympathetic instrumental collaborators
demonstrate a clear vision of exactly what best to do to give her
performances the best chance of shining. The very best kind of Country.
It's hard to pick out the winners with a bunch of songs as well-crafted as
these but special mentions should go to 'The Beauty Way', a lilting piece
of curiously uplifting melancholy; the delightful 'Life Is Beautiful', a
composition whose lovely melody and luminous harmonies prompted me to
grab Mrs Wolf around the waist and whorl her around the cave in a state
of cheek-to-cheek romantic oblivion (she's a sucker for a soppy tune too!);
'I'll See You Again', a number whose verses put me a little in mind of Richard
and Linda Thompson's magical 'Down Where The Drunkards Roll' and the sublime
final track 'Sleep Well' which, with its painfully sad reflections, will have
you reaching for a hankie before the final bars fade away into the night sky.
Ms Kaplansky has given the very best of herself with this stunning collection.
The writing is still as intense and very personal as ever and as such is so touching and allows you to be there with her feeling every emotion that must have gone into writing these beautiful songs that she has put together. Lucy has never really got the recognition that her music and songwriting thoroughly deserves - I just hope that someday soon her talent is rewarded for the many great pieces of work that she has produced. Listen and enjoy and then spread the word !
