HASH(0x9a35a8b8) out of 5 stars A Supposed Sequel To "Exit The Dragon..." But... 8 Feb. 2007
By Itani Mullik - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD Verified Purchase
Having done a little research on this film, I've found that this was promoted as a sequel to Exit the Dragon, Enter the Tiger. Like Exit the Dragon...we have Bruce Li tangling with the underworld(only this time he has the assistance of Angela Mao Ying from Lady Worldwind, Enter the Dragon, etc). The action is there, the crime element is there, and once again we have Bruce Li in another one of his best performances(those in which he's NOT attempting to succeed or emulate Bruce Lee), the only problem is, this is another film altogether, new characters, new everything...nothing to do with Exit the Dragon at all. Another shortcoming is the fact that his duel with the "western" crime boss wasn't realistic enough for my tastes, given Bruce Li's martial artistic limitations in comparison to Bruce Lee. Not taking anything away from Bruce Li's fighting ability...I just don't see him holding his own against a possibly 6 or 7 foot, 300-400 lb monster of a man with superhuman strength. That showdown was right out of a comic book. But the movie's still a keeper. Only for the die hard Bruceploitation fans though, particular those of Bruce Li.

HASH(0x9a35e114) out of 5 stars Return of the Tiger 5 star kung fu entertainment 4 July 2012

Ho Chung Tao, better known as Bruce Li. A great Taiwanese martial artist, excelling in gymnastics, wing chun, taekwondo, among others. unfortunately for him, he bared a close resemblance to his hero, the legendary Bruce Lee, and when he met director Jimmy Shaw after Bruce's untimely death, he was quickly cristened Bruce Li and the rest is history, good or bad. now, rewind to 1979 when jimmy shaw directed bruce li, angela mao(as mao ying)and paul smith(soon to be brutus alongside robin williams and shelly duval in 1980's "popeye") in RETURN OF THE TIGER. Bruce Li really shines in this flic, as usual when he wasnt forced to copy bruce lee. this time its pure ho chung tao, pulling out all the stops, and showing off his fine gymnastics in a humorus scene in which he rubs baby oil on himself to evade and humiliate a very large opponent. angela(ying) mao also shines(as always) as Li's beautiful and dangerous sidekick. LI and Mao are undercover narcotic agents out to stop a big time heroin dealer, paul(paul smith) who we discover early on was also responcible for chang ho(bruce li)'s father. chang is determined to avenge his father and bring down pauls karate school, night club, and currupt movie business which was the front for his heroin trade. the action is incredible, and dont let the bad dubbing (standard for all 70's kung fu flics) blind you from the acting itself, which is actually quite good for a low budget flic. this is one of the most entertaining kung fu flics ever made, chock full of humor, spectacular stunts, and hip 70's disco rock. what more would you want in a kung fu movie?? i always say all one has to do in order to become a real fan of Bruce Li, is forget that name. this is Ho Chung Tao, a bruce lee fan who looks like bruce lee, but has got a style all his own, with his trademark cocky grin and gymnastic somersaults. a sad turn of fate had taken the life of his beloved wife, and since then he quit acting thus crushing the very real possibilty he would have outshined the industry's wishes to copy bruce lee and became a great kung fu star like jackie chan. think of that when you watch RETURN OF THE TIGER, the best bruce li movie of them all!

HASH(0x9a2ab21c) out of 5 stars Two great fighters that fight great together! 28 April 2011

Bruce Li ("Dynamo") teams with Angela Mao ("Broken Oath") to put the hurtin' on a couple of rival Hong Kong gangs in this low-budget rip-off of the Kurosawa classic "Yojimbo". While not nearly as successful (in any of the numerous ways) as the movie whose plot this was lifted from, it ain't bad either, with plenty of decent 70s fights to keep the old-school fu-viewer interested.

Li plays Chang Hung, a man who enjoys playing two gangs against each other that are vying for supremacy in the SE Asian drug trade. Where does his loyalty lie? One gang? Neither? Man, I wish I could say more about the plot but there's not much to talk about. Uhh... one of the gangs is headed by American behemoth actor Paul L. Smith, who would go on to play Bluto in Robert Altman's "Popeye"! How's that?

If I had a major complaint it would be that we don't see nearly enough of Angela Mao. She kicks the crap out of a bunch of dudes in the first act and we hardly see her again until the end. I have seen a lot of movies starring her and a lot starring Bruce Li but I have yet to view an Angela Mao flick that I don't like. Bruce Li, on the other hand, has made a lot of flicks that I've totally dug but has also laid down a handful of real stinkers! Therefore, she should have the larger role! Equal at the very least!

The DVD from Brentwood Home Video has a decent fullscreen picture and no special features with only an English dub. There are many movies from either to recommend before this one but it's fun and silly and generally available for cheap. If it still sounds appealing after all that then you will presumably enjoy it.

HASH(0x9a2abe4c) out of 5 stars Bad storytelling, but plenty of action 5 Jun. 2007

Bruce Li stars as an undercover agent who is looking to take down a major crime boss played by actor Paul Smith. After the characters keep on doublecrossing eachother the entire movie, it all leads to a huge throwdown at the end. Angela Mao Ying (Bruce Lee's sister in Enter the Dragon), Wong Wing Sang (Yoga master in Master of the Flying Guillotine), and Blacky Ko (Thai kickboxer in Return of the Chinese Boxer (Dub)) have good fighting roles and the cast is definitely the brightest spot in the movie.

While the movie is not good, some of the action is very well choreographed. The best scene is in Lung Fei's karate school. Wong Chi Sang and others go at it hard! Then the last 18 minutes is non-stop action with Paul Smith taking on Lung Fei, Chang Yi, Bruce Li and others. Paul Smith's punches look really weak, but his action scenes are still a ton of fun. Highly recommended to those who love quality kung fu movies that don't try to bore you with a deep story.

2.5/5

DVD from Trinity Home Entertainment has pretty good picture quality and the English dubbing is good.

A hit man comes to town to kill an American boss hired by a wealthier Chinese boss. Then we find out the hit man hired by the Chinese boss is only pretending to work for him. Even though the American boss knows the hit man wont kill him he still sets up many meetings in private with American boss telling him hes going to kill him making no sense what so ever. The whole movie has these dramatic scenes like blacking out a club and throwing firecrackers on the ground just to meet in the back room to tell each other death is coming . It is the worst spy vs hit man vs body guard vs crime syndicate plot I have ever witnessed. It makes no sense. The movie takes another twist and we find out the hit man is trying to get the 2 bosses to fight each other then make is move. Its all put together is such a senseless way it is funny. Then add some of the most retarded fight scenes it becomes hilarious. That's why I give it a 3 rating . I movie is so bad its hilarious, so I enjoyed it
