Following the deaths of their forefathers, red indians have always held those that have gone before themselves to a "better place" as near godlike.
When the Europeans came to America and the Spanish also came from the South America's they brought disease and pain for the red indians. later that might have turned into something else but the red indians were a percuted peoples. Driven from the lands they held as their own and corralled onto land they considered inferior or at best not fit for purpose.
This book tackles the subject of people simply wishing to repatriate the remains of their ancestors for ceremonial burial in the lands now deemed to be their own.
I am ashamed to admit I watch many westerns, some of which depict the indians as savages. This is not so, they are many tribes with as many of the qualities we, Europeans hold. their culture and religious believes mirrior our own. I invariably empathise with the indians in these westerns as the under dogs. People that through no fault of their own were over come by change and technology beyond their capabilities, at the time. Would I recommend this book - yes and ask that who ever reads it does so with an open mind on the subject matter.
