Product Description

Product Description

Originally released in 1999 as a sequel to ‘Journey To The Centre of the Earth’, the album has been out of print and unavailable for many years.

‘Return to the Centre of the Earth’ has been re-issued to complement the newly extended and re-recorded edition of ‘Journey To The Centre Of The Earth’, and comes beautifully packaged as a 180g heavyweight gatefold LP and a digi pack CD, both complete with new, original artwork from legendary artist Roger Dean.

Released to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of his landmark concept album, Rick Wakeman presents the repackaged, re-recorded, extended ‘Journey To The Centre Of The Earth’ and the accompanying ‘Return To The Centre Of The Earth’

This is really very good. Beautifully recorded and packaged I actually think it is a more coherent piece of work than "Journey". This is in no small measure due to the superb narration by Sir Patrick Stewart. He should have been commissioned to do both projects.. Peter Egan rather pales beside him I'm afraid.

I'm a huge admirer of Rick, both musically and in his personality, but I found this to be a pretty awful, uninspiring piece. Another one just collecting dust on the shelf with (sadly) a few others he has come up with. Our Heroes often disappoint us at times, but it is to be expected I suppose. I don't blame him, he writes and plays what he wants to, it's just up to us to like it or not. It is all a matter of personal taste really, so although I cannot recommend this, I cannot advise anyone not to listen. It's entirely up to you !!

After the Masterwork that was (and still is) "Six Wives", with the superb concert at Hampton Court to put a Royal Seal on it, "Journey" was (for me) ruined by dreadful lyrics and equally dreadful vocals. "Arthur" had good music, but once again (to my ears) dreadful and unnecessary vocals.

Really enjoyed this album, especially Bonnie Tyler`s vocals on "Is there Anybody There". Patrick Stewart`s narration is first class! Give it a try.

I would buy just for Patrick Stewart's voice. The music is not as good as the original.
