1995 in Hip-Hop was one of the hardest yearz for Gangsta Rap, with albums like Mobb Deep's The Infamous, Big L's Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous and Raekwon's Only Built For Cuban Linx... ODB took rap to a strange place here. With the confidence from the Wu-Tang debut, and RZA using a similar production formula, the album was always gonna be a critical success

The best thing about ODB as a lyricist is not only the humour he brings to his tracks but also the flow he possesses, he can flow easily over any beat, and this is aspect is framed and hung up on the wall over the mantle on this album. It's not a naturally easy flow, but think of the way Enter the Wu-Tang was formatted, his flow is similar.

Ol' Dirty isn't the best rhymer to grab a mic, so if you're looking for deep lyricism and hardcore rhymes, don't try this album just yet. When you feel you've explored real lyrics thoroughly, r just want to hear some mentally damaged lyrics and some crazy RZA beatz, get this album into collection.

Ol' Dirty is not the best MC but one of the funniest. Most of the beats are by RZA and they doesn't disappoint here, some of his best basslines are scattered amongs this enjoyable CD which is enjoyable from start to finish.
Many core clan members show up to drop verses - GZA, Raekwon, RZA, Meth, Ghostface, Masta Killa. Killah Priest and more show up on the posse cut Proteck Ya Neck II The Zoo.
All of the above makes this one of the best Wu albums, Shimmy Shimmy Ya & Brooklyn Zoo are hip hop classics making this into a monumental hip hop album. If you haven't heard it give a try.

RZA went crazy here on the beats and loops. If it had have been a Ghostface joint it probably would have been one of the best albums ever made. As it is, with ODB, it's original and brilliant. Im a big fan of 95 hip-hop albums and this is no exception. I come back to this album from time to time and love it. This is certainly in the bunch of top five WU albums.

Like Gza's Liquid Swords, This has been Repackaged in a great looking Wallet, With a few nice little extras too. I dont need to tell you how good the album is, as its one of the best in any genre, ever made. Timeless if you ask me. Defiantly one of my favorite CDs in my collection

If youre a fan of Wu-Tang Clan then obviously you need to run out and get the solo albums, Wu-Tang worked close together on their individual albums and you still get the Wu family feeling with them.
Ol dirty Bastard is one of the greatests despite sounding off his face all the time this is an enjoyable album and defnatly worth getting.

Just happened to listen to this by chance the other day and felt compelled to write a review the best part of 20 years after it was released.

This is an outright classic.

Most successful hip hop artists have a very short shelf life. It's practically impossible to stay raw and relevant after a bit of success. The nature of ODB's was such that his talent was unusually fragile even by hip hop standards, but this album captures him at his very peak.

The record tells listeners a lot about the sort of person the artist is. His sense of humour, honesty, and integrity shine through incredibly strongly. As a listener you're probably glad that you aren't that raw or [let's face it] crazy but it's great to listen to a talented 'musician' who is laying [certain aspects of] his soul bare.

ODB's slurred, off-beat, half-sung, half-rap style was more or less unique and showcased at its best on this album.

The production is spot on, not cutting edge today in the way it was in '95 but it still sounds great.

Not the best Wu album, but no one has a style like ol dirty.
If you enjoyed the original solos like ironman and liquid swords, then buy this. Its one of those albums that you forget how good it is until you hear it again.

This is one of the roughest, crudest, most experimental and individual Hip-Hop Albums ever, ODB has his own style and here on his Solo Debut he let it rip, backed up by RZA and other Wu Guests he has delivered a modern classic.
