The Mission at their best are a truly magical band with some gorgeous, timeless songs. This collection features a load of their best tunes but they've all been re-recorded and drastically altered. Yes, it's an interesting insight into how they've changed over the years, but once you've satisfied your curiosity you'll be reaching out for the original classics. The only song that improves on the original is the acoustic version of Like A Child Again, which is played on the piano/keyboard and evokes misty-eyed memories of their live gigs. The other songs are put together with some strange drum patterns - a stab at being more modern? - which doesn't always work but still conjures up a bit of nostalgia for the Mish's heyday. If you're a Mission completist, you need this album and will find it an interesting listen. If you are new to the band, check out Children, Gods Own Medicine, Carved in Sand and The First Chapter. They are far superior albums and do the Mission's great songs the justice they deserve.

I couldn't wait to listen to this album when it arrived. Unfortunately i was a little disappointed.

yes they have all the old classics on there but they have tamed the rawness of the original tracks down to a poppy beat which is not what i would expect from The Mission.

after listening the album i immediatly went online and bought the original untampered albums and remembered The Mission for what they are really about.

Another one of those Mission's greatest hits records. This one has (in my opinion) a very good selection of songs, but I _don't_ like the remix versions. I think the songs lost all of that special "Mission feel". A pity. If I was to buy one and only one greatest hits collection by The Mission, I'd buy "Sum and Substance" or "Tower of strength"

I love this band but in my opinion this greatest hits cd is very poor. It just does nothing for me.

There's a much better greatest hits package available, or why not buy the early albums to get a goth treat?
