Product description

Product Description

Penetration release their long awaited (36 years) third album "Resolution" on October 9th 2015. The project was supported by fans through a successful Pledge Music campaign launched at the beginning of the year. Original members Pauline Murray (vocals), Robert Blamire (bass ) Steve Wallace and Paul Harvey (guitarists since the band reformed in 2002) are joined by John Maher (Buzzcocks, Invisible Girls) on drums. Whilst retaining key elements from their past, the band have produced an album that takes their sound into the future. Original guitarist Fred Purser has been involved in the recording and mixing process with Robert Blamire producing. The twelve tracks on the album are all strong songs with thoughtful lyrics and interesting twists and turns. The sleeve was designed by Vaughan Oliver (v23 4AD) Whilst being an integral part of the punk/new wave movement in the late 1970's, Penetration were always unique and the new album "Resolution" continues that tradition.

The blend of the guitars is still here in spades with a little bit more polish on production and a more pop /less edgy feel. A fantastic album with well crafted songs throughout, I love it.

A really great Rock album, Pauline Murray may have not made many records but totally worthy of 5 stars. One of the best albums of 2015.

After a hiatus of 36 years since their last album I have to say I had some trepidation about what this would be like particularly as I loved Moving Targets and Coming Up for Air so much - albums that still sound fresh when played today. So producing something that could hold a candle to either of these I would have said would have been near on impossible. So when I bought this album on an whim with little expectation I was totally blown away by just how good this is and after numerous plays I believe this is as good as anything in their back catalogue and actually probably their best work. I won't bother going through and picking out any favourites as every track is top draw - no filler here! It's got light, dark but ultimately it's an uplifting album with great melodies, fantastic guitar work and Pauline's vocals soar majestically over the whole piece - she's never sounded better. Brilliant. Album of the year - well it damn well should be! Well done that band!!!

On first listen my reaction was "is that it?" but two listens later and this album was clearly establishing itself as a damn fine record. Lets be clear though if its a three chord punk thrash you are after then this is not for you - its the more mature end of punk and the musicians all come out of this with considerable credit. Pauline Murray's voice has slightly mellowed over the years but is still as distinctive as ever and it's a shame that Penetration have taken so long to record this album. But if you liked their earlier material then you will not be disappointed by this but if you're like me it might take two or three listens to get the whole picture.

This is a very polished, well produced poppy album and that is the biggest problem with it.
It was exactly the unfinished edges in the original penetration sound which made them special for me.
My copy of 'moving targets' on luminous vinyl is one of tthe most played albums in my pocession, it is really interesting to hear one of my favourite bands from the '70s making music again.
On most tracks Pauline voice is very cultured and melodic which is nice but I prefer the more 'whiny' version; track 7 'beat goes on' it is there sometimes and the guitar solo is a bit more dissonant compared with the remainder of the album.
I guess this album is aimed at old fans of the band and I am sure it will please those, it pleases me, but if one hasn't listened to the earyl singles and sessions the album does not mean a lot as a stand alone.
The three stars are relative to 'moving targets'.

This really is an excellent album. But it bears no relation to anything "punk" whatsoever. This is in fact a superb rock album written and performed by excellent musicians. I always found it a great pity that Penetration ended up being pigeon holed with the "punk movement" because their abilities could certainly have reaped a much higher level of main stream success. I'm sure many will disagree, but when I listen to Pauline Murray's voice and the genius of Penetration I just don't hear punk rock at all. Just a unique sound. And I like it! You should too!

Couldn't wait for this to arrive. I really think it's a well constructed and entertaiing album. Some songs are very good indeed, although I'm not too keen on the talkie one - not my thing. Fred Purser and John Maher guest and Gary Smallman is credited too. I always loved this band and I only wish they would play a gig near Colchester one of these years! Excellent album - play it loud!
