Movie about CIA torture program after 9/11

The movie was ok from the factual evidence provided, the acting was fine. It was overall a bit slow and must be made for the American market as the ending was basically a message about how the Americans might do wrong but in the end we admit it and did a report into it. Fact is no one in the CIA or the higher ups who authorises torture went to prison. So the real message of this story should be , in America we can break American and international laws and get away with it and nothing will happen to us.

It's not All The Presidents's Men, but it's eye opening nonetheless

It has a steady pace, and despite anyone who either was too young to remember or hasn't been living under a rock for the past twenty years, it gives a well documented account of how some of America's darkest days were covered up.
There is an obvious agenda in the telling; that the "The things we did to them were no worse than the things they did to us" excuse is flawed by virtue of it being of zero practical value.
The scenes at the heart of the inquiry are disturbing without needing to be visually graphic, allowing the film to rely on the narrative to drive it rather than shock us into agreeing with its message. That shows they had faith in its message, and the script. There is no, "back and to the left... back and to the left... back and to the left..." scene in this movie.
Considering the most useful piece of "Truth" EIT ever recovered was, "We discovered that the truth is that he's lying to us..." it is well worth making a film that highlights that not only is torture immoral and illegal, but also notoriously unreliable to the point of being completely useless.
Adam Driver is just brilliant in everything he does, and and the way the film shows his determination and frustration without ever needing for him to scream and shout shows the strength of writer and director.
There will be about 43% of Americans who hate it on principle, and that's fine.
But when watching it, try to put that political bias aside and judge it on its merits as piece of art. You'll still hate it, but you might appreciate it as well.
If you agree with its politics, you'll probably be wearing the T shirt next week.

Subtle political thriller with a slow burn...

Overall very well acted and produced movie. Worth 4 stars but throwing in the extra star because they were brave enough to tell the story without feeling the need to embellish with the bells and whistles that usually go with Hollywood blockbusters (fights, guns, car chases etc)

Outstanding movie with superb cast and script. Although it presents a complicated issue and set of political protocols it never confuses but rather cleverly cross references events which both clarifies & heightens the drama. Astonished at the audacity of the CIA and the the reaction of successive governments since 9/11 to the Report. A must see….

Great film. Disturbing subject set against our own memories of that recent period.

Excellent film. Shame the cia people involved all got promoted and one is now Director of the CIA under Trump. Reward for a record of panicked failure in using intelligence to properly prevent attacks, trying clearly unsuccessful and illegal means to gather intelligence - the effects of which haunt America to this day, - and blatant face saving is not a good look. The only gap in the film is maybe highlighting much more the fbi's more successful role in investigating and preventing attacks and make it clearer the same people who repeatedly supported EIT were the same ones who blocked the fbi investigating the hijackers before they attacked the twin towers, and maybe any via successes around Osama and other attacks where they didn't torture people, if any.

Let's show everyone we did a bad thing for the best reasons - i.e., fascism - and now feel bad about it - not too bad though - and everyone will be happy. God bless America.
