This battery has brought new life into my TomTom GO520T.

It was quite easy to change, 2 off small Torx 5 screws for the cover, dig your nails in to split the screen from the main body (else use a plastic widget thingy) - once you dig in work round like changing a tyre on your bike and it pops off.

Motherboard needs to come out with 4 more (slightly shorter) Torx 5 screws.

Disconnect old battery, use a Credit card (or similar plastic card) to gently prise the battery off the motherboard.

Take the window frame shaped double sided sticky tape off the old battery and use this to stick the new one in.

Plug the cable back in, fit the motherboard (4 screws), fit the back (2 screws).

job done

I saw a video on utube that helped a lot (similar model but same method).

I tried it on 1 charge and got 3 hours straight.

Nice Lithium polymer battery.

It would have been easier if the torx screwdriver was magnetic! My battery did not come with the tool but I had 1 already. I think you can also choose to buy the battery with the tool.

I worked in a big plastic tray so I wouldn't lose anything.I used in addition to the tools supplied as an optional extra to the battery 1 large safety-pin for prising connectors out, the little tweezers out of my Swiss Army knife for dropping the screws back,(the torx screwdriver should as everyone says be magnetic), and my phone for reading the downloaded instructions which helped to make the job a whole lot easier.you'll only need the blue handled driver and the removal tool out of the tool-kit.Yes, they are a bit cheap and small but that's just what you need to get in to the works.I still managed to damage the ribbon connector latch, but the black tape on it seems to be holding it o.k.Putting this back was the worst part of the job, requiring a couple of attempts before the screen would work.I had to bend the cable about in a fairly alarming manner before it would go into the socket squarely and stay put. The battery came off a lot easier than I expected using the miniature "tyre-lever" provided, and the little picture frame shaped lump of double-sided sticky tape on the old battery seems to have stuck it back as it was before.Right now it's on charge in it's USB dock and apparently almost full. I've no reason to suppose it won't last a lot longer than the 1 min. or less I was getting on the old battery, so, I reckon I've got a bargain, although,I'm still going to run it for a bit before I splash out the money for another years maps.I can now pre-plan routes on the kitchen table again, and still run it in the car when I've forgotten to plug it in yet again.Maybe I'll be able to use it on foreign holiday walkabouts and save a mint on phone roaming charges!

Working fine in my TomTom 520. The unit fits fine but the replacement is not any easy task, through no fault of this battery. TomTom just want you to buy a new unit, waste is profit. Take care when prising out the old battery that you do not perforate it, like yours truly did.

Was a bit wary about this idea at first as so many unknowns eg supplier, opening kit, tools required etc

But I did a bit of research and found a couple of You-tube videos detailing the procedure and tools required

I had the tools so that was a plus ( a cheap set of Mini Screwdriver & Bits from WICKS good for laptops & glasses too)

The hardest part is easing the battery out as it is stuck in with a Double sided sticky pad
as the circuit board is thin you must be careful to ease the battery out carefully
doing it in a warm room helps as it softens the adhesive a bit

I used a lolly stick and gently twisted it under the battery easing it out

Then it was a reverse procedure to fit the new battery and reasemble the unit I did not stick mine back in

Me being me I had to test it straight away
It had more charge than the battery I was scrapping after a 24 hour charge

worked straight away had to set it all up again though

Fully charged works perfect and has done for six months now

Still working well after 18 months

Would have given this 5 stars but as I've only just fitted the battery I decided to be a little cautious. I ordered the Battery on Sunday evening, it arrived today and after searching Youtube for fitting instructions I had the battery fitted within a few minutes. Charged it for a couple of hours and the TomTom seems to be working fine, before fitting the battery the device would switch off within 3 mins. This has saved me either the cost of a repair by TomTom (they won't tell you how much until they have the device) or a replacement device. Make sure you buy a toolkit as well as the battery, it made the job a lot easier.

The replacement battery has completely revived the Sat Nav. From having only a few minutes battery life, the unit now is back to the original several hours of run-time. The battery comes with all the special screwdrivers required to open the case of the TomTom.

Changing this battery is like defusing a bomb. Taking to bits TomTom is a pain - I followed the online video and all went well appart from the cable connectors that are stiff and cheap. The real dangerous bit is removing the battery. TomTom seem to have made a self-destruct mechanism on the board!!!!! The battery is very solidly attached to the board and on the otherside of the board is a very delicate memory chip (unsurpisingly a lot less robust than other chips on the device). Now on the video it lots easy to remove or the say warm it up or whatever but in the end you can pull it off without too much pressure but any pressure at all seems either damage the chip or make it need repairs - you have to be very careful.

I have just had mine fixed by a guy who in the end updated software put in a new board etc... for £50 but he says a major chunk of his business come from people suferring the TomTom self-destruct battery replacement, I am just glad that they didn't put a bit of plastic explosive in there too to really discourage you from getting more life out of your TomTom.
